CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M closes out their exhibition schedule on Saturday afternoon as the #13 Baylor Bears claimed a 86-46 victory at Foster Pavillion in Waco, Texas.
Â
WT struggled to find offensive rhythm in the opening quarter, with
Chloe Callahan hitting the team's sole three-pointer to account for their early scoring. Despite solid defensive rebounding, evidenced by
Taytum Bell's efforts, the visiting team was unable to capitalize consistently on offense. As the quarter progressed, Baylor took advantage of the Lady Buffs' seven turnovers, gradually extending their lead. The home team closed the quarter with a notable run, securing a 16-5 advantage heading into the next quarter.
Â
West Texas A&M started the second quarter with
Abbi Holder scoring a jumper, cutting into Baylor's lead.
Kenadee Winfrey added two free throws, keeping the visitors within reach. Despite defensive efforts, including a steal by
Zoey McBroom, the Lady Buffs faced challenges as Baylor found success beyond the arc, highlighted by a three-pointer from Jana Van Gytenbeek. As the quarter progressed, Callahan and
Henley West each contributed points in the paint, but Baylor's consistent scoring, including another three-pointer from Yuting Deng, extended the home team's advantage. The quarter closed with Baylor leading 33-15, as the Lady Buffs managed to add a late jumper from McBroom.
Â
WT began the third quarter with a defensive effort, but turnovers presented challenges as Baylor capitalized with several baskets in the paint.
Kyla Kane responded with a jumper, and
Taylor Haggan added a putback to keep the team engaged offensively. However, Baylor extended their lead with a key fast-break layup by Kiersten Johnson, prompting a timeout by the Lady Buffs. Midway through the quarter, Callahan nailed a 3-pointer assisted by Bell, giving a boost to WT's scoring. The defensive boards by Holder and Haggan helped to slow Baylor's momentum slightly, though the opposition maintained their advantage with efficient shooting and assists. In the closing minutes, West contributed with consecutive baskets, including a three-point play, showcasing resilience from the Lady Buffs. Despite the late push, Baylor continued to score effectively, closing the quarter with a 63-34 lead.
Â
WT opened the fourth quarter with a paint jumper by West, assisted by Holder, setting an early tone. The team continued to press offensively, with Kane and Winfrey each contributing key baskets, including a three-pointer from Winfrey. However, Baylor answered with strong scoring and defensive plays, gradually widening their lead. Despite efforts by the Lady Buffs to stay competitive, including free throws from
Tierra Owens, turnovers limited their ability to close the gap. Baylor capitalized on these opportunities, extending the margin further with consistent scoring. The quarter concluded with a decisive Baylor lead, ending with a score of 86-46.

Kyla Kane led the team with eight points, shooting 4-for-10 from the field, and collected five rebounds. Callahan matched her with eight points, including two three-pointers, and added two steals. West contributed nine points and secured three rebounds. Winfrey chipped in eight points, making all three of her free throw attempts.
