CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M freshman 
Abigail Abugire set a new school record in the women's 800m on Friday afternoon at the Red Raider Invitational at the Sports Performance Center on the campus of Texas Tech University.
 
Joseph Oreva impressed in the men's long jump as the Nigerian product registered a pair of 7.63m (25-0 ½) marks to win the event by 0.20m, Oreva's jumps are the third best indoor marks in program history. 
 
A pair of Buffs qualified for the 60m finals as 
Isaac Botsio ran a 6.73 in his heat followed by 
Jerry Jakpa with a 6.87, Japka ran a 6.75 in the finals to finish seventh with Botsio in eighth with a 6.78. 
Troy Whyte picked up a fifth-place finish in the men's 60m Hurdles with a time of 7.94, the Jamaican product registered a prelim mark of 7.94.
 
The West Texas A&M distance squad continued to shine as 
Adrian Legarreta won his heat in the men's mile with a time of 4:17.13 to finish sixth overall. 
Wiley Gaskins claimed a time of 4:37.77 to finish 13
th followed by 
Adrian Solis (14
th, 4:46.01).
 
Hamdi Ali made his mark in the high jump as the senior registered a jump of 2.02 (6-7 ½) to finish tied for seventh. The triple jump saw three Buffs finish inside of the top six led by Anas Mirghani with a 14.82m (48-7 ½) in fourth.
 
Abugire had the most impressive performance of the afternoon in the women's 800m as the freshman ran a time of 2:07.19 to set a new school record in the event, topping the mark of 2:14.44 by 
Raquel Chavez back on February 23, 2024 at the Lone Star Conference Championships.
 
Anas Mirghani picked up a fourth-place finish in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.82m (48-6) followed by 
Manuel Cuesta in fifth (14.78m) and Gael Robles in sixth (14.57m). 
 
WT Track & Field continues their weekend on Saturday as the throws group competes in the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
