CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field began 2025 in style this weekend as they registered four new marks inside of the program's all-time indoor Top-10 during the eighth annual Corky Classic at the Sports Performance Center on the campus of Texas Tech University.
 
WT returns to Lubbock next Friday as they take part in the Red Raider Invitational.
 
DAY 1
Meadow Gallentine started off the afternoon in style as the Anson product registered a mark of 18.73m (61-5 ½) to finish fourth in the weight throw, tallying the eighth best indoor mark in program history. 
Hope Gray picked up a fourth-place finish in Section B of the weight throw with a mark of 16.21m (53-2 ¼) on her third attempt to finish fourth. 
 
Nigeria product 
Blessing Akintoye ran a time of 55.64 in the 400m to win Heat 14 and finish 24
th overall. 
 
Troy Whyte punched his ticket to the semifinals in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.00 in Heat 6 as the only Division II competitor in the Top-24. The Jamaica native ran a time of 7.95 in the semifinals to finish 14
th.
 
Luke Holcombe impressed in Section B of the men's weight throw with a mark of 17.46m (57-3 ½) on his second attempt to claim a second-place finish. 
Ethan Hollinshead finished ninth in the same section with a throw of 49-0 ¾ (14.95m) on his opening attempt.
 
DAY 2
The Lady Buffs got the day started on Saturday in the 60-yard run with 
Peace Nwaelehia finishing 11
th with a time of 1:22.81 followed by fellow freshman 
Asana Hamidu in 13
th (1:23.36). 
 
10 different Lady Buffs competed in the mile across five different heats as 
Abigail Abugire ran a time of 4:58.25 to finish seventh followed by 
Naomi Addo in ninth (4:59.14) and 
Eliette Chaput in 11
th (5:00.51). Abugire now sits eighth on WT's indoor all-time list followed by Addo in ninth.
 
The 4x400m relay closed out the meet as Akintoye, Hamidu, 
Peace Nwaelehia and 
Temitope Adenuga ran a time of 3:45.85 to win Heat 6 and finish 13
th overall.
 
The Buffs impressed in the men's mile as they place five runners inside of the Top-10 and three inside of the Top-5. 
Aziz Mohammed ran a time of 4:09.84 to win the event with the eighth fastest indoor mile time in program history followed by 
Dennis Cheruiyot in third (4:13.98) and 
William Amponsah in fifth (4:14.81).
 
Holcombe continued his strong weekend in the shot put as the Floydada native registered a throw of 16.88m (54-3 ¼) on his third attempt to finish ninth overall.
