CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffs shot a 298 on Tuesday to finish tied for fifth overall at the 2024 Lone Star Conference Men's Golf Championships at the Scissortail Course at WinStar Golf Club (Pay 72 – 7,157 Yards) in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Luis Palomo led the way for the Buffs as the sophomore from Barcelona, Spain carded rounds of 71, 73 and 71 for a 215 (-1) to finish eighth overall on the individual leaderboard. The Buffs finished the final round with eight birdies along with one eagle by
Wyatt Provence on the 586-yard par five 15
th hole.
Dallas Baptist (-13, 851), Midwestern State (+1, 865), Oklahoma Christian (+2, 866) and Western New Mexico (+4, 868) advance to the medal match play semifinals tomorrow morning in Thackerville, the two semifinal winners will battle in the afternoon for the LSC Championship.
Leandro Mihaich of Oklahoma Christian finished off an impressive three rounds with scores of 68, 67 and 72 for a 207 (-9) to claim a two-stroke victory over Sam Jenkins of DBU (-7, 209) for the LSC Individual Championship.
The Buffs now await their postseason fate as the NCAA will announce the qualifying teams for the 2024 Division II Men's Golf Championships on Friday, April 26
th on NCAA.com.
