CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes shot an opening round 287 (+7) to lead after the opening round at the Oak Tree Invitational at Oak Tree Country Club (Par 70 – 7,102 Yards) in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The Buffs led the field in par-three scoring (3.20) and par-four scoring (4.15) as they registered 11 birdies in their scoring group to hold an 11-stroke lead over the host Oklahoma Christian Eagles entering the second round. The tournament has been limited to 36 holes due to low temperatures and high winds.
Luis Palomo and
Santiago Caride both shot rounds of 71 (+1) on Monday as the Buffs finished the opening round with four players inside of the Top-10. Palomo and Caride both had two birdies during their first round as Caride tied for the lead in the field with a 2.75 scoring average on the four different par-three holes.
The Buffs will be paired with Oklahoma Christian, Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian during Tuesday's final round in a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m.
