CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffs fired rounds of 289 and 291 on Monday during the opening day of the 2024 Lone Star Conference Championships at the Scissortail Course at WinStar Golf Club (Par 72 – 7,157 Yards) in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
 
The Buffs registered 30 birdies on Monday with 17 of them coming in the second round to sit tied for fifth on the team leaderboard. DBU fired rounds of 286 and 282 for a 566 (-8) to hold a four-stroke lead over Midwestern State (-4, 572). Leandro Mihaich of Oklahoma Christian shot in the red in both rounds with a 68 and 67 (-9, 135) for a three-stroke lead over DBU's Sam Jenkins and Cameron's Rudy Sautron (138, -6).
 
Wyatt Provence and Luis Palomo led the way for the Buffs as they are tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard identical rounds of 71 and 73 for a score of 144 (E). West Texas A&M will be paired with Western New Mexico and UT Tyler during Tuesday's third round.
 
The top four teams following Tuesday's third round will advanced to medal match play to determine the Lone Star Conference Champion.
