CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon as the welcome the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps to the First United Bank Center for Lone Star Conference action, tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day in Canyon.

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN RECAP
The Lady Buffs trailed by 10 entering the locker room and couldn't get a string of defensive stops in the second half on Thursday night at one of the toughest home courts in Division II women's basketball in a 75-68 loss to the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian during Lone Star Conference action at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.Â

Nyalam Thabach led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as the senior from Boise, Idaho went 5-of-11 from the floor including 1-of-2 from deep and 4-of-4 from the free throw line for a team-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and a block.
Karley Motschenbacher chipped in 12 points with seven boards followed by
Grace Alvarez and
Kyla Kane with 11 points each.

A LOOK AT THE LADY CHAPS
The Lady Chaps enter the weekend with an overall record of 20-8 with a 15-6 mark in Lone Star Conference action following a 75-68 win over the Lady Buffs on Thursday night at the Rip Griffin Center.

Lubbock Christian finished the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 24-11 with a 16-6 mark in league action, advancing to the semifinal round of the LSC Championships before falling to Texas Woman's (84-49). LCU qualified for the NCAA Tournament, picking up wins over TWU (62-55) and Black Hills State (66-50) before falling to UT Tyler in the Regional Finals in double overtime, 67-64.

Grace Foster leads the way offensively for the Lady Chaps as the junior forward from Childress has gone 135-of-278 (48.6%) from the floor including 42-of-101 (41.6%) from behind the arc and 98-of-110 (89.1%) from the free throw line to average 15.8 points per game to go along with 164 rebounds, 66 assists, 19 steals and 20 blocks. Foster is sixth in the Lone Star Conference in scoring (15.8/game).

LCU HEAD COACH STEVE GOMEZ
Steve Gomez is now in his 21st season at the helm of the Lubbock Christian women's basketball program, holding an overall record of 520-151 during his time in Lubbock. He has led the Lady Chaps to three NCAA Division II National Championships since transitioning from the NAIA in 2013. A 1988 graduate of Lubbock Christian, Gomez was a standout student-athlete for the Chaps where he still holds the program record for career free throw percentage.

THE SERIES
Thursday night marks the 16th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Lady Chaps as LCU holds the 9-6 series lead. WT has won four of the last six meetings in the series. LCU is 2-4 all-time in Canyon including 2-3 inside of the First United Bank Center, winning their last trip in 2023.

Last year's meeting in Canyon saw Thabach go 8-of-16 from the floor for a team-high 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds while Motschenbacher scored 12 with 10 boards for a double-double. The Lady Chaps had four players in double-figures led by Maci Maddox with 18 in a 71-60 victory at the FUBC.

WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his third season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 28th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2022-23 campaign as they went 21-11 overall including a 14-8 mark in LSC action.Â

Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.

HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 272-37 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 87.7%. WT has averaged 1,025 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.

LSC BASKETBALL PRESEASON POLL
Defending LSC Tournament Champion Angelo State picked up 15 of the possible 44 first place votes for a total of 652 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Texas Woman's (17 first place, 633), UT Tyler (nine first place, 627), Lubbock Christian (three first place, 606) and West Texas A&M (524) to round out the top five.

Texas A&M-Kingsville was tabbed sixth with 492 points followed by St. Edward's (379), Cameron (311), Oklahoma Christian (270), UT Permian Basin (270), Eastern New Mexico (248), Western New Mexico (233), Texas A&M International (225), UAFS (202), Midwestern State (172) and St. Mary's (140).
