CANYON, TX – The West Texas A&M No. 2 Buffs break the distance medley school record at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts and add nine personal best marks at the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas on Friday, February 9.
Both meets have stiff competition with competitors coming from TCU, Texas Tech, Harvard, Texas A&M and multiple professional runners.
JARVIS SCOTT OPEN
Nine Buffs recorded personal best times on the first day of the Jarvis Scott Open with five bettering their sprint time in the 60-meter.
Jace Lynch ran the fastest of the five at 6.86 seconds and became the third fastest on the team. LaVell Patterson bettered his time to 6.90 seconds to become the sixth Buff to run under seven seconds this season. In mid-distance, four Buffs ran better with two in the 400-meter and two in the 800-meter. Aymeric Fermley led the Buffs in the 400-meter placing 29
th out of 77 going 48.84 seconds as one of those personal bests.
In the 60-meter, Isaac Bostio ran in the highest division of the meet in mens open. In his prelims and the finals, Botsio ran a 6.64 time to place sixth fastest overall. He now has the 7
th-10
th fastest times in the event in WT history.
DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL
The Buffs had one race on Friday and that was the distance medley consisting of a relay team to run the 1200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter and the one mile.
Aziz Mohammed,
Malick Diop,
Prince Mcabelo and
Louis Moreau ran for the No. 2 Buffs which resulted in the fastest time ever recorded for WT at 9 minutes 44.92 seconds. This was the first time since 2022 that a distance medley team had raced and put up a fast enough time to make the WT top-10.
