CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs begin the second half the Lone Star Conference schedule as they continue their homestand on Thursday night, welcoming the Cameron Aggies to the First United Bank Center for Paint the Floor Pink Night with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. in Canyon.
PAINT THE FLOOR PINK
Help the Lady Buffs raise awareness for Breast Cancer at the 2nd Annual "Paint the Floor Pink" event. Members of Buff Nation will be given pink streamers upon entry into the FUBC, when the Lady Buffs score their first point of the game fans will throw the streamers on the court. 
 
UT TYLER RECAP
West Texas A&M handed the #24 Patriots of UT Tyler their first defeat since November 11th on Saturday afternoon as long scoring runs and strong defense lifted the Lady Buffs to a 73-54 Lone Star Conference crossover matchup at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
Kyla Kane paced the West Texas A&M offense as the Wellington product went 9-of-12 from the floor including 5-of-6 from behind the arc for a career-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds, one assist and a steal. 
Nyalam Thabach finished with a double-double as the senior went 7-of-11 from the floor to score 18 points to go along with 14 rebounds.
 
A LOOK AT THE AGGIES
Cameron enters the week with an overall record of 7-12 with a 5-8 mark in Lone Star Conference action following a 79-74 loss to the Lions of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday afternoon at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith.
 
The Aggies finished the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 13-16 with a 10-12 mark in Lone Star Conference action as they advanced to the opening round of the LSC Championships in Frisco before falling to eventual champion Angelo State, 70-62 at the Comerica Center. Cameron finished the season 9-3 overall inside of Aggie Gym with eight of those victories coming during league action.
 
Alena Wilson leads the way offensively for the Aggies as the junior guard from Dallas, Texas has gone 118-of-263 (44.9%) from the floor including 4-of-32 (12.5%) from deep and 55-of-84 (65.5%) from the charity stripe to average 10.9 points per game to go along with 221 rebounds (78 offensive, 143 defensive), 23 assists, 32 steals and 15 blocks.
 
CU HEAD COACH JEFF MAHONEY
Jeff Mahoney is in his first season at the helm of the Cameron women's basketball program after being promoted in May of 2022 following three seasons as the program's top assistant. He helped the Aggies make three trips to the LSC Championships as well as a spot in the 2021 NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.
 
Mahoney spent part of the 2021-22 campaign as the interim head coach for the Cameron men's program. The Roosevelt, Oklahoma product is a 1986 graduate of Cameron as he played baseball for the Aggies for two seasons. 
 
THE SERIES
Thursday night will mark the 57th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Aggies as WT holds a 49-7 advantage in the series that dates back to 1982. The Aggies are 1-28 all-time in Canyon, dropping their last 11 trips to the Texas Panhandle.
 
The last meeting saw 
Nyalam Thabach go 6-of-9 from the floor and a perfect 3-of-3 from the stripe for a team-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds and a block for her fifth double-double of the season in a 69-63 Lady Buff victory at Aggie Gym.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his third season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 28th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2022-23 campaign as they went 21-11 overall including a 14-8 mark in LSC action. 
 
Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 272-37 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 87.7%. WT has averaged 1,025 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LSC BASKETBALL PRESEASON POLL
Defending LSC Tournament Champion Angelo State picked up 15 of the possible 44 first place votes for a total of 652 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Texas Woman's (17 first place, 633), UT Tyler (nine first place, 627), Lubbock Christian (three first place, 606) and West Texas A&M (524) to round out the top five.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville was tabbed sixth with 492 points followed by St. Edward's (379), Cameron (311), Oklahoma Christian (270), UT Permian Basin (270), Eastern New Mexico (248), Western New Mexico (233), Texas A&M International (225), UAFS (202), Midwestern State (172) and St. Mary's (140).
 
Grace Foster of Lubbock Christian and Sawyer Lloyd of Angelo State were named the 2023-24 Co-Preseason Players of the Year. Foster and Lloyd headline a list of 16 LSC Players to Watch in the 2023-24 season.
