CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes fired a five-under 283 in the final round to pick up a victory in the RJGA South Central Shootout at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Golf Club (Par 72 – 7,166 Yards) in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
It marks second career victory for head coach
Axel Ochoa as he ties Brad Borden (2002-05, 2010-13) with the most victories in program history during the modern statistical era. The Buffs pick up their fifth team trophy since 1998 and the first since the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational on October 4-5, 2021.
Freshman
Victor Estas led the way for the Buffaloes as the Kortenburg, Belgium product fired a two-under 70 during the final round to finish with a 210 (-6) as he birdied five holes on the back nine including the final three to finish tied for 2
nd overall.
Sangha Park of UT Permian Basin claimed the individual championship with a -10 (206) for a four-stroke victory over Estas, Western New Mexico's Adam Niles and Colorado Christian's Adam Duncan with a 210 (-6).
The Buffs shot a 283 (-5) during Tuesday's round as they tallied 21 birdies to go along with an eagle by
Wyatt Provence on the 354-yard par-four 10
th hole. Colorado Christian finished second on the team leaderboard with a 859 (-5) followed by Colorado State-Pueblo (861, -3) and UT Permian Basin (E, 864).
The Buffs return to action next Monday and Tuesday as they host the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at Amarillo Country Club.
