LUBBOCK, TX – The West Texas A&M Men's and Women's Cross Country wins the Texas Tech Open as a team and places first individually in each division. The Buffs placed first out of 21 teams with 41 points beating out New Mexico JC (60), Oklahoma (88), Texas Tech (94) and UT-El Paso (137). The Lady Buffs ran to victory with all five runners placing in the top 25 individually and finishing with a team score of 42. They beat out 21 other teams including Texas Tech (62), Oklahoma (112), New Mexico JC (119) and St. Edward's (125).
BUFFS
Junior LSC Runner of the Week,
William Amponsah, lead the Buffs and finished with the individual title with a time of 24:29.00. He placed above the top five competitors from UT- El Paso, New Mexico junior college and Texas Tech.
Aziz Mohammed and
Enrico Oddone finished in the top ten out of 164 runners with the exact same time of 25:15.00. They tied for 6
th place and ran alongside each other for the entirety of the 8k race. Last year's LSC Runner of the Year,
Harry Louradour, finished in 13
th with a time of 25:55.40. Behind Louradour was teammate
Adrian Legarreta in 14
th place with a time of 25:58.70.

LADY BUFFS
LSC Freshman of the Week
Sarah Koomson finished seconds above the competition and led since the very start of the race. She came in first with a time of 21:50.00 and beat out competitors from UT- El Paso and Oklahoma in the top five. Koomson finished 43 seconds ahead of second place finisher Ruth Jerubet from UT-El Paso.
Teammates
Betty Bajika and
Elise Leveel placed third and fifth out of 128 competitors. Bajika kept pace with the top three until the last lap on the course with Leveel making great headway in her final stretch. Bajika finished with a time of 22:52.00 and Leveel finished with a time of 22:59.00. Closing out for the Lady Buffs were runners
Olivia McLain (11
th- 23:44.30) and
Raquel Chavez (22
nd- 24:39.30).
