CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball coach
Tom Brown tapped into the Australian connection once again as he announced the signing of Mackenzie Morgan. Morgan, a 6-foot-5 guard, comes to Canyon from New South Wales, Australia.
"I've always seen Mackenzie as the perfect final piece to the puzzle. Whatever you need, he's able to provide said Head of AUSA Hoops Anthony Separovich. "Whether it's to lockdown the other team's best player, hit a big shot, or just simply execute an important play. He's just reliable, all the time!"
"Similar to his twin brother (St Cloud State Commit), 'Macca' was a late bloomer. He was cut from teams as a junior, he had to sit on the bench and earn every minute he played. Through his basketball journey he was forced to develop a toughness and resilience that most other athletes do not possess" Separovich added. "This gives me the confidence to say that he will always find a way to contribute and be highly successful at the next level. He's a competitor, a hard worker, and a winner. I look forward to seeing him represent West Texas A&M for the coming years and have no doubt he will be a valuable part of their program in the future."
Morgan played his prep career at Marist Catholic College North Shore under Benjamin Smutts. Morgan helped his team to a Combined Catholic Schools State championship where he averaged 22.1 points, seven assists, and eight rebounds per game.
"Macca is going to be a great fit at WT. He is a shooter and someone that can stretch the floor," said WT head coach
Tom Brown. "Defensively, he has good size and will guard multiple positions. We are really looking forward to having Macca on our squad next season."
WT comes off a 27-7 campaign in 2023 making another NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. The Buffs also won the LSC West Divisional Title, the LSC Regular Season Title, and their sixth-consecutive Lone Star Conference Tournament Title!!
