CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M completed day one of the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi. The first day of competition included the decathlon and heptathlon with two Buffs and two Lady Buffs on the track and field events. The three-day meet will feature over 500 athletes from 16 schools.Â

Friday is scheduled to begin on 12:30 p.m. with the Decathlon, followed by the Heptathlon at 1:00 p.m. then the jumps at 3:00 p.m. and running events to follow. Live results will be posted, along with a live stream for Friday and Saturday of the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi. Â

DAY ONE
The first day of the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi saw two Buffs,
Gerard Bryant and
Traise Cain competing with 5 other multi athletes. Bryant won first place in the 100m, shot put and high jump. Cain was right behind him in many of the events with either a second or third finish. Bryant jumped 1.97m in the high jump with .03m higher than his previous best. He competed better in three events, 100m, shot put, and long jump, than at previous meets this season. Cain had a personal best in the high jump (1.79m).Â

The Lady Buffs had two multi athletes competing,
Laiten Greeson and
Elliot Harrison. Greeson won first place in the 200m and 100m hurdles. Harrison was also a close finish in the high jump and 100m hurdles. Greeson broke into the top ten all-time for WT, the first time a Lady Buff has done so since 2015, as she hit a personal best mark of 13.93 in the 100m hurdles. She also bested her time in the 200m (25.27) and the high jump (1.59m). Harrison completed the day with personal bests in the high jump (1.56m) and 100m hurdles (14.27).Â

The Buffs and Lady Buffs will continue the decathlon and heptathlon tomorrow to finish out placements.Â

The Lady Buffs will have a full squad in action this weekend including National Athlete of the WeekÂ

andnational leader in the high jump, Brooke Urban.  They will be competing at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow, April 7.Â

A LOOK AT THE RANKINGS
The Lady Buffs moved one spot atop the DII standings to second in the nation with multiple top-10 performances nationally.Â

On the men's side, the Buffs rank third in the nation after jumping twelve spots from the previous national ranking, adding a pair of Top 10 efforts at the Texas Relays was
Joseph Manu running a 10.14 in the 100m andÂ
Jeremiah Lauzon placing tenth overall and ranking second in the nation in the 200-meter. Â
UP NEXT
WT will send a handful of student-athletes to compete in the Bryan Clay Invite on April 12-14 in Azusa, California while other athletes go to compete in the Ross Black Open from April 14-15 in Hobbs, New Mexico.Â
