CANYON, TX – West Texas A&M Buffs and Lady Buffs Track and Field take the No. 1 spot in the nation in the US Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association rankings for week three.
The Buffs were ranked 15
th in the nation in the first week polls before making a jump to the No. 3 spot. They continue to improve meet after meet to gain the No. 1 rank in the nation.
WT competed this past weekend at their home meet, Jo Meaker Classic & Multi. Three facility records were broken by the Buffs, two of those being alumni turned professional athletes by
Benjamin Azamati in the 100 meter and
Abraham Seaneke in the long jump (7.89m).
The Buffs lead the nation in the 4x100 relay with a time of 38.92. Additionally, the Buffs have the No. 3 4x400 relay with a time of 3:09.68. There are seven top-5 performances including national athlete of the week,
Isaac Botsio, in the No. 2 spot of the 100 meter (10.06).
Quinton Sansing in the No.2 spot for the 400 meter (46.01).
Joseph Manu has the No. 3 performance in the 100 meter (10.08) and has No. 8 (20.87) in the 200m. There are four individuals in the No. 4 spot in the nation,
Jeremiah Lauzon in the 200 meter (20.69),
Butare Rugenerwa in the 800 meter (1:49.41),
Hamdi Ali in the high jump (2.13m) and
Gerard Bryant in the decathlon (6,904).
The Lady Buffs moved one spot to No. 1 in the nation. There are four individual national leaders as well as a national leading 4x100 relay team and No.2 4x400 relay team.
Taylor Nelloms, the previous national athlete of the week, leads the nation in the triple jump 13.29m. On the track,
Eleonora Curtabbi is leading the nation in the steeplechase (10:02.60), her fastest time to date.
Florance Uwajeneza has the 5000-meter locked in at No. 1 (16:07.13). Mid-year transfer,
Corrssia Perry, has the 400-meter No. 1 spot (52.71). The Lady Buffs have four additional top-5 efforts, No. 2
DeOndra Green, the national athlete of the week, in the 100 meter (11.36),
Brooke Urban at No. 2 in the high jump (1.71m), No. 3
Laiten Greeson in the heptathlon (5,136) and No. 5
Elliot Harrison also in the heptathlon (4,895).

The distance team will compete this week (April 12-14) at the Bryan Clay Invitational held at Azusa Pacific in Azusa, California.
The throwers will be competing at the Ross Black Track and Field Open (April 14-15) at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico.
The next home meet will be the Buff Invitational held on April 22
