Men's Basketball Signs TJ Brown

CANYON, Texas – On Thursday, West Texas A&M men's basketball announced the signing of TJ Brown. Brown, currently a senior at nearby Amarillo High School, will join the Buffs ahead of the 2024-25 season.

TJ is currently a senior guard at Amarillo High under head coach Jason Pillion where he has helped the Sandies to a 50-7 record over the past year and a half. So far, Amarillo is No. 7 in the UIL rankings in 5A with a 18-2 record.

"TJ is a very hard worker and competitor who is always putting the team first. He is a true student athlete and someone I'm really looking forward to having in our program, said WT head coach Tom Brown. "He is a great shooter and plays very solid defense. He plays great on ball defense and is willing to rotate and sacrifice his body. He is tough and durable, as he has battled some injures but has not missed a game the past 2 years."

  • TJ is currently 3rd in scoring.
  • He is 1st on the team in Offensive, Defensive and Total Rebounds.
  • TJ is 2nd in total made 3's.
  • He is currently shooting 53% from beyond the arc.
  • He is tied for 2nd in charges taken for the Sandie team that prides itself on defense.
  • TJ is currently 5th on the team in minutes played.

"TJ committing to play at WT brings a smile to my face.  As a coach and father, you always hope your child will play for you some day, Brown added. "TJ has a chance to make a significant impact to our program.  He is willing to do whatever it takes to win.  He is a winner!!  He has been around our program and will know the ins and outs.  What we really like about TJ is he can really shoot it.  He is a shooter-he is going to shoot!"  Coach Brown added.

"Really can't believe that I will be able to coach my son next year!! It's a great day to be a Buff!" Brown concluded.

The Buffs are currently 10-1 on the season with a 4-0 mark in Lone Star Conference. WT is currently ranked No. 4 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top-25 Poll.
