CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M head men's basketball coach
Tom Brown has announced the signing of Ryland Holt.
Holt, a 6-foot-6 guard out of Gibson City, Ill., inked his name with the Buffs following a three-year stint with the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks playing under head coach Matt Margenthaler.
During his time in Mankato, Holt made 58 appearances including 38 starts where he averaged 24.7 minutes for the Mavericks. He scored 11.5 points a game to go along with 5.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.7 blocks and steals. In three seasons, he scored in the double figures on 32 occasions including a career-high 25 points in MSU's 80-60 victory over Bemidji State.
In the 2019-20 season, he was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Freshman of the Year after finishing with second on the team with 14.1 points per contest and 5.8 rebounds while connecting on a team-high 107 free throws (.770). He also exceeded in the classroom at MSU, earning NSIC All-Academic honors his sophomore year.
Prior to his career at MSU, Holt played for the Gibson City-Melvin Sibley High School where he was not only a two-time First Team All-Conference selection but a two-time All-State honoree after helping the Falcons to a 57-6 overall record in his junior and senior campaigns. Holt and the Falcons claimed two conference championships and went on to finish third at the 2019 IHSA 2A State Championships. He was a two-time first team all-conference selection with the Falcons' football team that won back-to-back state championships.
