Bajika Wins 5,000-Meter Race at Masked Rider Open

LUBBOCK, Texas – West Texas A&M's Betty Bajika won the 5,000-meter race on Saturday afternoon at the Masked Rider Open in Lubbock at the Texas Tech Fuller Track & Field Complex. 
 
No. 1 Lady Buffs
 
Taylor Mixon finished eighth in discuss with a personal best 128-7.0 (39.21m) before she returned to throw 134-4.0 (40.95m) in the hammer throw.  Zada Swoopes placed third in the hammer with the school's third-best mark of 177-9.0 (54.18m).
 
Joey Zimmerman finished sixth in the women's pole vault at 11-0.25 (3.36m) followed by Jayna Lueders in ninth with a clearance of 10-0.5 (3.06m). 
 
Hekla Sif Magnusdottir finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-9.5 (11.82m) followed by Stefani Vasileva in ninth (11.57m).  The duo returned for the long jump where Daniela Pesic finished seventh with a personal-best 18-11.75 (5.78m) with Vasileva and Sif Magnusdottir in 14th and 16th
 
Tiana Melton finished 14th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.04 with Makayla Thomas closesly behind in 16th at 1:00.71. 
 
Cheyann Shadden placed 11th in the 400-meter hurdles while Kara Stout finished 20th in the 100 with a time of 12.86. 
 
 
No. 2 Buffs
Jahmaal Wilson picked up a provisional mark as the top finisher for the Buffs in the 110m hurdles as the sophomore placed-second behind Tyrin Lewis who competed unattached.  Wilson ran 13.99 with Christian Marshall running 14.65 to come in 12th followed by Traise Cain (14.89) and Gerard Bryant (15.64). 
 
Luke Holcombe finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 48-8.75 (14.85m) followed by Jon Tucker in eighth (13.49m). 
 
Gabe Imery led the Buffs in the pole vault after clearing 14-5.5 (4.38m) to place ninth while Dawson and Dylan Gilliam finished 10th and 11th
 
Peniel Richard finished fourth in the triple jump with mark of 48-0.25 (14.65m) with Sifiso Miya placing seventh and Hunter Warminski in 11th.  
 
Jeremiah Lauzon grabbed a provisional mark in the 100m with a time of 10.36 to place fourth with the fourth-fastest time in DII. 
 
Briggs Wittlake and Gustavo Posada finished 4-5 in the 5,000-meter run with Wittlake running 15:23.13 and Posada 15:24.76.  
 
Up Next 
WT will return home to host the annual Jo Meaker Classic and Multi at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex in Canyon on April 7-9.
