Benjamin Azamati and
Eleonora Curtabbi were named the Lone Star Conference Track Athletes of the Week for their record-breaking performances at the 94
th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays announced on Wednesday morning by the league's offices.
Azamati, the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, earns his first conference outdoor honors of the season after he shattered his own NCAA Division II and Ghana national record. The sophomore ran a world leading 9.90 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash which is the fourth-fastest time in all collegiate history.
Curtabbi was named the Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career after she broke her own 3,000-meter steeplechase record. The junior from Turin, Italy ran a program record 10:16.66 to pick up her first victory of the season, defeating Kansas' Lona Latema by 10-seconds.
WT will compete in the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open this weekend, April 1-2, at the Fuller Track & Field Complex in Lubbock.
