#4 West Texas A&M Splits Saturday Action with St. Mary’s

CANYON, Texas – The #4 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M split Saturday Lone Star Conference doubleheader action on the road at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas as WT claimed game two before falling in the nightcap to the St. Mary's Rattlers.
 
The Buffs and Rattlers conclude the four-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch of the finale set for 1 p.m. in San Antonio.
 
GAME 1
The Rattlers jumped out to an early 2-0 led in the first inning before the Buffs responded in the third as Eddy Savoie singled home Izaiah Madrid followed by a Kennedy Badgett RBI double to the gap in right center to score Paul Wittmann and an Adam Becker sac fly to center that plated Savoie and gave WT a 3-2 lead.
 
WT added to their lead in the fourth as Savoie connected on a grand slam to left field for the 7-2 lead. The Rattlers cut into the lead in the fifth with a Rudy Solis RBI single down the right field line to score Clay Bradford to make it 7-3.
 
St. Mary's made it interesting in the home half of the seventh as they loaded the bases and cut the lead to 7-6 with a Jake Elizondo RBI walk with two outs before Brennan Berdon forced a fielder's choice ground ball to Madrid at shortstop for the 7-6 win.
 
Colton Charnholm picked up the win (6-2) for the Buffs, allowing four earned runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout in his 2.1 innings of relief. Berdon claimed his second save as he allowed no runs on no hits with one walk and one strikeout over the final 0.2 frames.
 
GAME 2
St. Mary's jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap as Elizondo doubled to the gap in left center to score Ryan McGowen followed by a Brian Juarez RBI single to left to plate Elizondo and give the Rattlers the 2-0 lead headed to the third.
 
WT responded in the fourth as Will Fuenning singled thru the right side to score Savoie followed by an Eric Ortiz RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2. The Rattlers broke the game open in the fourth with seven runs followed by another insurance run in the sixth for a 10-3 victory.
 
A.G Ayala picked up the loss (2-2) for the Buffs, allowing six earned runs on five hits with no walks and no strikeouts in his 0.2 innings of relief.
