No. 20 West Texas A&M Travels to Oklahoma for Nonconference Matchup

CANYON, Texas – No. 20 West Texas A&M hits the road this weekend with a game against the Cameron Aggies on Saturday, Feb. 5.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at the Aggie Gym. 
 
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron enters the week at 2-12 overall and 0-8 in LSC play with a nine-game losing streak. The Aggies are led by interim coach Jeff Mahoney who stepped into the role at the helm earlier this season. 
 
The Aggies rank 17th in the LSC in scoring offense at 67.2 points per game but are allowing 79.4 points per contest. They are also allowing opponents to shoot 45.7 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. 
 
Colt Savage is the leading scorer for the Aggies at 14.9 points per games shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, 47.3 percent from three and 83.7 percent from the free throw line. The junior guard has scored in double figures 12 times including three 20-point performances. He has also made at least one 3-pointer in all 14 games this season. 
 
Brock Schreiner ranks second on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per contest to go along with a team-high 20 steals. The Choctaw, Okla. native scored a season-high 28 points against Midwestern State. 
 
Connor Slater does it all for the Aggies as the junior is averaging 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He has had a pair double-doubles this season including a team-high 17 blocks. 
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series 40-16 including a 15-9 record in Aggie Gym in Lawton.  Brown is 12-3 all-time against the Aggies with eight of those wins coming since a 79-70 loss in the LSC Quarterfinals in 2016.  In their last matchup, the Buffs defeated the Aggies 103-50 with four players reaching double-figures. 
 
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Lubbock Christian leads the league as the last remaining undefeated program in the LSC with a perfect 20-0 record with eight conference victories.  St. Mary's (10-7, 7-1 LSC) ranks second in the standings followed by DBU (14-7, 7-2), Texas A&M-Commerce (14-4, 6-3) and UAFS (11-9, 5-3) rounding out the top five.  The Buffs stand sixth in the standings with a 6-4 conference record and 19-5 overall. 
 
CLIMBIN' THE LADDER
Zach Toussaint collected a career-high seven 3-pointers on against Midwestern State before posting four against St. Mary's to bring his career total to 187.  Toussaint now ranks fifth on the Buffs all-time leaderboard. WT All-American David Chavlovich (2014-18) set the all-time career record with 388 threes to the set the program standard.  
 
A LOOK BACK AT ST. MARY'S
Four Buffs reached double figures led by sophomore guard Larry Wise. The Waxahachie, Texas product totaled 22 points shooting 6-of-17 from the field, 1-of-5 from the three and 9-of-9 at the charity stripe to go along with six rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.  Zach Toussaint and Julius Brown also reached double figures at 20 and 19 with Brown earning a season-high seven steals. 
 
WT finished the day 30-of-86 (34.9%) from the field while going 7-of-33 (21.2%) from beyond the deep and 31-of-39 (79.5%) at the charity stripe to go along with 48 rebounds, 11 assists, 18 steals and one block.  Kavon Booker registered his third double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. 
 
The Rattlers went 34-of-57 (59.6%) from the floor, 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the three and 16-of-24 (66.7%) at the free throw line while collecting 39 rebounds, 22 assists, eight steals and five blocks. Five players scored double figures led by Josh Brewer who posted 22 points followed by Caleb Jordan at 20. 
 
A LOOK INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Buffs are outscoring opponents 81.0-67.5 with a 43.5 shooting percent from the floor including 32.9 percent from the deep and 74.3 percent from the free throw line.  
 
As a team, the Buffs average 40.5 rebounds per game alongside 11.5 assists, 7.4 steals, and 3.5 blocks.  Three Buffs average double-figure scoring led by Zach Toussaint.
 
Toussaint averages 15.5 points a game to rank eighth in scoring average while standing third with 371 total points.  Against Midwestern State, Toussaint became the first player to score 36 points in a single game since 2016 while also becoming just the 14th player in program history to reach the milestone.
 
Larry Wise is the Buffs second leading scorer with 14.8 ppg to go along with 4.7 rebounds.  The Waxahachie, Texas native has registered five 20-point performances this season including a season-high 27 against UT Tyler.  Junior guard Julius Brown has collected a team-high 59 assists and 36 steals this season while averaging 13.0 ppg. 
 
Kavon Booker has brought down a career-high 159 rebounds (6.6 rpg) this season which is the fourth most in the LSC with 54 of those coming on offense to go along with a team-high 24 blocks. 
 
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown earned his 200th career victory on Monday afternoon with the Buffs victory against St. Edward's, becoming just the third coach in program history to reach the milestone. Brown is in his eighth season at the helm of the Buffs, registering an overall record of 200-48 (.806) with four NCAA Tournament Appearances including the programs first appearance in the National Championship game last season.  The two-time LSC Coach of the Year led the Buffs to their fourth consecutive conference tournament championship title.
 
NABC TOP 25 POLL
Following their 1-1 recorded in week 10, the Buffs dropped to 20th in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25.  Lubbock Christian remained atop the national standings with a 19-0 overall record, receiving 14 first-place votes.  Nova Southeastern ranked second at 18-0 (2fpv) followed by Cal State San Bernardino, Northwest Missouri State, and West Liberty to round out the Top 5. 
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
The four-time defending LSC Champions were picked second after going 19-3 in 2020-21 including the program's first appearance in the National Championship game.   WT received 13-of-42 possible first place votes, following the preseason favorite Lubbock Christian with 26.  DBU was picked third followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville and St. Edward's in the top five.
 
Midwestern State was selected sixth followed by Angelo State, Texas A&M-Commerce, UT Tyler, UT Permian Basin, UAFS, St. Mary's, Oklahoma Christian, Eastern New Mexico, Cameron, Texas A&M International and Western New Mexico. 
 
LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Lone Star Conference Championship will take place on March 3-6 with the top 12 teams will qualify for the postseason tournament with the first-round games played on-campus and the remaining eight games in Frisco, Texas at the Comerica Center. 
 
The NCAA South Central Regional Championships are set for March 12-15 followed by the NCAA Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
