LUBBOCK, Texas – The nationally-ranked West Texas A&M track & field men's and women's teams picked up eight provisional marks on Friday as they completed the regular indoor season at the Jarvis Scott Open hosted by Texas Tech at the Sports Performance Center on Friday.
LADY BUFFS
Eleonora Curtabbi collected her first victory of the season as she won the 3000m event in a field of 24. The junior ran a season-best 9:54.33 defeating Oklahoma Baptist's Emma Downing and Texas Tech's Binta Ka by nearly 40-seconds. Raquel Chaves competed in the 800m where she ran 2:25.56 to finish 10
th.
Sherifatu Sheriff was the top finisher in two events for the Lady Buffs as the freshman finished seventh in the 400-meter dash in 58.34 before returning to the track to run 26.03 in the 200m to place 14
th.
For the jumpers,
Brooke Urban finished third in the high jump with a season-best and provisional mark 5-5.75 (1.67m) while
Daniela Pesic finished 2
nd at 18-9.25 (5.72m). The long saw Pesic finish second overall with a mark of 5.72m, Hekla Magnusdottir claimed a victory in the triple jump with a leap of 11.95m.
Zada Swoopes impressed again with a second place finish in the Shot Put with a toss of 15.60m to go along with a mark of 18.22m in the Weight Throw to finish third as Texas Tech's Seasons Usual registered a meet record in the event (21.53m).
BUFFS
On the men's side,
Hamdi Alamin picked up a fifth place finish in the High Jump with a mark of 2.09m followed by
Seniru Amarasinghe in eighth (2.04m).
Ray Dixon impressed in the Weight Throw as the junior from Llano registered a mark of 18.02m to finish fourth.
Sifiso Miya claimed a pair of individual crowns in the long jump (7.21m) and the triple jump (15.47m) while
Luke Holcombe picked up a victory in the Shot Put (16.71m) to top TAMUC's Ryan Amador by .05 of a meter.
UP NEXT
WT will return to the track competes in the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 25-26 at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas. Following the meet, the Buffs and Lady Buffs will set out to Pittsburg, Kan. on March 11-12.
