CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball returns to the First United Bank Center on Tuesday night as the No. 24 Buffs (21-6, 7-5 LSC) host Cameron (4-14, 2-9 LSC) for more Lone Star Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT in Canyon.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron is coming off an 89-85 double overtime upset against No. 3 Lubbock Christian, standing at 4-14 overall and 2-9 in LSC play. The Aggies are led by interim coach Jeff Mahoney who stepped into the role at the helm earlier this season.
The Aggies average 69.4 points per game while their opponents post 79.5 ppg. They are also shooting 40.9 percent from the floor including 33.4 percent from the long range and .737 at the charity stripe.
Colt Savage is the leading scorer for the Aggies at 15.0 points per games shooting 44.7 percent from the floor, 42.3 percent from three and 83.6 percent from the free throw line. The junior guard has compiled five 20-point plus performances including three in the five last games.
Brock Schreiner sits second on the team in scoring at 13.6 points per contest to go along with a team-high 29 steals. The Choctaw, Okla. native scored a season-high 29 points against Texas A&M-Commerce.
Connor Slater does it all for the Aggies as the junior is averaging 11.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He has had a pair double-doubles this season including a team-high 18 blocks.
INSIDE THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series 41-16 with an 11-game win streak including a record of 22-6 in Canyon. The Buffs and Aggies meet for the second time this season after WT registered an 85-72 victory led by 23 points from
Julius Brown.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Lubbock Christian leads the league as the program in the LSC with a perfect 22-2 record and 10-2 in conference play. DBU ranks second in the conference standings (16-8, 9-3 LSC) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (16-5, 8-3 LSC), St. Mary's (11-10, 8-4 LSC), and UAFS (12-10, 6-4). WT ranks just outside of the top five with an overall record of 21-6 and 7-5 in conference play.
CLIMBIN' THE LADDER
Zach Toussaint collected a career-high seven 3-pointers against Midwestern State to bring his career total to 194. Toussaint now ties fourth on the Buffs all-time leaderboard alongside former Buff Charles Byrd. WT All-American David Chavlovich (2014-18) set the all-time career record with 388 threes to the set the program standard.
A LOOK BACK AT ENMU
The Buffs defeated Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon, 86-66, to move to 21-6 on the season. WT shot 30-of-68 (44.1%) from the field, 11-of-32 (34.4%) from three-point range and 15-of-24 (62.5%) from the free throw line with 34 rebounds, 15 assists, 12 turnovers, 16 steals, and three blocks.
Four Buffs reached double figures led by
Julius Brown who posted his sixth 20-point game. The junior shot 7-of-17 from the floor, 3-of-8 from the deep and 3-of-4 at the line for 20 points to go along with four rebounds, five assists and game-high four steals.
The Greyhounds finished the day shooting 46.3% (25-of-54) from the floor including 23.1% (3-of-13) from the deep and 13-of-15 (86.7%) at the charity stripe to go along with 33 rebounds, 28 turnovers, 10 assists, four blocks and four steals. Jared Perry led ENMU with 16 points while Kevin Nza Mba brought down a game-high nine rebounds.
A LOOK INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Buffs have a conference-leading 81.1 scoring average while limiting opponents to 68.3 points a game. WT is shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 32.9 from the deep, and 73.4 percent at the free throw line to go along with 40.0 rebounds, 11.9 assists, 7.9 steals and 3.4 blocks.
Zach Toussaint, the Buffs leading scorer, averages 15.2 ppg with 139 field goals including 71 shots from the deep which is the third most in the LSC. The sophomore has recorded eight 20-point plus games including a career-high 36 against Midwestern State.
Waxahachie, Texas product
Larry Wise has started all 27 games for the Buffs, averaging 15.0 ppg with six 20-point games along with 4.6 rebounds.
Julius Brown also averages double-figures at 13.9 while dishing out a team-high 74 assists and 47 steals.
Kavon Booker has brought down 176 rebounds this season (6.5 rpg) to lead the Buffs with 57 of those coming on offense along with a team-high 26 blocks.
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN

Tom Brown is in his eighth season at the helm of the Buffs, registering an overall record of 202-49 (.805). Brown earned his 200
th career victory on Monday afternoon with the Buffs victory against St. Edward's, becoming just the third coach in program history to reach the milestone. He's made four NCAA Tournament Appearances including the programs first appearance in the National Championship game last season. The two-time LSC Coach of the Year led the Buffs to their fourth consecutive conference tournament championship title.
NABC TOP 25 POLL
The Buffs moved to 24
th in the latest edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Top 25 poll. There was a shift in the Top 5 as Nova Southeastern moved atop the rankings as the last remaining undefeated program in Division II at 20-0 followed by Northwest Missouri State. Lubbock Christian, who remained No. 1 for 10 consecutive weeks, dropped to third after falling to DBU last week. West Liberty stands fourth with UNM Pembroke rounding out the top five after extending its win streak to 16.
LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Lone Star Conference Championship will take place on March 1-6 with the top 12 teams will qualify for the postseason tournament with the first-round games played on-campus and the remaining eight games in Frisco, Texas at the Comerica Center.
The NCAA South Central Regional Championships are set for March 12-15 followed by the NCAA Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
