DENVER, Colo. – West Texas A&M's dynamic duo of
Florance Uwajeneza and
Eleonora Curtabbi made a statement on Saturday as they went 1-2 at the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country South Central Regional Championships in Denver. The No. 24 Lady Buffs finished sixth as a team with 175 points, defeating Lone Star Conference foe No. 7 DBU by 46 points.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference had the top five teams led by No. 1 Adams State who placed three runners in the Top 10 for a total of 67 points.  No. 3 Colorado School of Mines came in second with 72 points followed by No. 4 UCCS (84), No. 16 CSU-Pueblo (106) and No. 10 Western Colorado (127).  ASU, Mines and UCCS received the region's automatic bids to the national races.Â

Uwajeneza and Curtabbi went head-to-head throughout the 6-kilometer course to defeat UCCS' Layla Almasri by 10-seconds, marking the first time in school history WT had runners finish in the top two spots. Uwajeneza continues to write her own history as the senior became the first Lady Buff to win the regional individual title.  The St. Paul, Minn. product covered the snowy course in 21 minutes, 8.6 seconds to claim her eighth career victory in the Maroon & White.Â

Eleonora Curtabbi crossed the line just two seconds later with a time of 21:10.6 to claim her second cross country All-Region accolade, improving off last season's 6
th-place finish.  Sophoore
Betty Bajika was the third Lady Buff to cross the finish line in 45
th (23:02.8) followed by
Raquel Chavez (59
th, 23:37.0), Lexi Maul (68
th, 23:52.4), Kallie Bullard (95
th, 24:49.3) and Anete Randma (113
th, 25:31.2).

A total of 34 teams will be selected to the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships on Dec. 3 in Seattle, Wash., as one of the final events of the DII Festival. The top three teams from each regional meet will receive automatic bids (24 teams), while an additional ten teams are awarded based on the following criteria:Â
