CANYON, Texas -
 West Texas A&M makes the trip to the State Capital on March 25-27 to compete at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

SWOOPES THERE IT IS
Zada Swoopes was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Women's Athlete of the Week after her record breaking performance at the WT Spring Break Classic. 
 
The Whitewright native now ranks first in the nation in the shot put after breaking the program, Lone Star Conference record with a toss of 55-0 (16.76m) on her sixth and final attempt of the competition. She also won the discus with the second-best mark in NCAA DII women's track & field. 
 
LADY BUFFS LOOKING TO MAKE A STATEMENT
The Lady Buffs are sending the A-Team to Austin headlined by Florance Uwajeneza in the 5,000-meters, Swoopes in the shot put and DeOndra Green, Valda Kabia and Kayla Wilson in the 100-meter dash. 
 
Seselia Dala will join Uwajeneza in the 5,000m as they look to go after Mireia Guarner's program record of 16:54.01 set back in 2015. Daphne Pate will also run the 10,000-meters for the first time in her collegiate career.
 
Green currently ranks first in the Lone Starr Conference and second in the nation in the 100m after running 11.77 to finish fifth on Friday in Canyon. Kabia ran 12.02 in her season opener and has a personal best of 11.70 in the event ran back in 2018. 
 
Swoopes returns to the Texas Relays looking to improve on her previous performances at one of the premiere collegiate meets in the country. She finished ninth in the shot put in 2019 with a mark of 50-1.75 (15.28m) while finishing 13th in the discus. 
 
Taylor Nelloms makes her outdoor debut after winning the triple jump national title with the third-best mark in NCAA DII history. 
 
GO BUFFS GO
Benjamin Azamati is scheduled to make his outdoor debut for the Buffs in the 100-meter dash along with running a leg on the 4x100-meter relay. The freshman is coming off an impressive indoor season where he won the 60-meter dash title at the NCAA DII indoor Track & Field Championships. He also ran 6.59 in the event at the Washburn Open in January, making him the fifth-fastest performer in NCAA DII history.
 
Another pair of All-Americans are scheduled to compete with Arnaud Taki and Butare Rugenerwa running in the 800-meters and Mile. The duo finished third and fifth in the half mile at the indoor championships. Ahmed Omer, Ezekiel Kipchirchir and Daniel Haymes will also compete in the 5,000-meters. 
 
Guillaume Devries will compete in the high jump after joining the 7-foot club last Friday in Canyon. He ranks first in the nation in the event after clearing 7-0.25 (2.14m). Peniel Richard will compete in the triple jump and Dhanushka Sandaruwan will compete in the long jump after picking up provisional mark last weekend. 
 
Tyler Pickens will be in the shot put with Mahmoud Masoud and Cade Halliburton competing the discus. Halliburton is coming off a strong performance on Friday where he broke the program record in the hammer throw. 
 
UP NEXT
WT will host the Jo Meaker Classic and Multi on April 2-3 at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex.
