#25 Lady Buffs Host Cameron on Senior Day at the First United Bank Center

CANYON, Texas –
 The #25 Lady Buffs conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they welcome the Cameron Aggies to the First United Bank Center with tipoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Senior Day in Canyon.
 
CAMERON
The Aggies are guided by fourth year head coach Emma Andrews who enters the weekend with an overall record of 45-66 during her time in Lawton. Andrews registered a standout playing career at Fresno State, winning four straight WAC Titles.
 
CU enters the weekend with an overall record of 13-14 with a 12-9 mark in Lone Star Conference action following a 93-74 road loss at Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night at Greyhound Arena. The Aggies finished the 2018-19 campaign with an overall record of 8-20 with a 5-15 record in Lone Star Conference play.
 
Maighan Hedge leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring as the sophomore from Melbourne, Australia has gone 173-of-402 (43%) from the floor including 67-of-176 (38.1%) from behind the arc to average 20.2 points per contest to go along with 3.7 rebounds per game and a team-high 94 assists.
 
WT HEAD COACH KRISTEN MATTIO
Kristen Mattio has continued the storied tradition of Lady Buff Basketball as she enters her fifth season at the helm of the West Texas A&M in 2019-20. Mattio has registering an overall record of 137-28 during her time in Canyon for a winning percentage of 83.0% as the Nashville native is the second fastest head coach in program history to reach the 100-win plateau with a 95-78 decision at Cameron on February 2, 2019.
 
SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS (FEB. 26)
The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs remained third in this week's NCAA Division II Women's Basketball South Central Regional Rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA's headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce remained atop of the rankings followed by Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M, Colorado Mesa, Western Colorado, Westminster, Angelo State, Tarleton, Eastern New Mexi-co and St. Edward's.
 
WBCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (FEB. 25)
Drury picked up 14 of the possible 23 first place votes to remain atop of the poll with 566 points followed by Ashland (nine first place, 561), Hawaii Pacific (510), Grand Valley State (497), Alaska Anchorage (460), Lubbock Christian (422), Texas A&M-Commerce (422), Indiana, Pa. (406), Lee (394) and Adelphi (375) to round out the top ten.
 
The South Central Region was represented by Lubbock Christian (5th), Texas A&M-Commerce (6th), West Texas A&M (25th) and Colorado Mesa (RV).
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 230-33 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 87.5%. 
 
WT has averaged 1,065 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
MOVING ON UP
Senior guard Megan Gamble has been making her way up the career assists list at WT as the Omaha product now sits fifth all-time with 421 for an average of 4.5 per game. She currently sits just 54 assists behind Sasha Watson (2013-17) who sits fourth with 475.
 
DEFENSIVE PRESSURE
The Lady Buffs have allowed an average of 50.2 points per game this season which leads the Lone Star Conference and enters the week ranking fifth in all of Division II Women's Basketball. WT allowed a season-low 26 points to Adams State on November 29th in Canyon, becoming the sixth lowest opponent point total in program history. WT has also held an opponent scoreless in a quarter on two different occasions this season.
 
WINNING TRADITION
The 2019-20 season marks the eighth-straight year of 20 or more wins for the Lady Buffs. WT won 30 or more games in 2013-14 and 2014-15 and have 30 wins in six seasons since 1980-81. The Lady Buffs have not had a losing season since 1980-81 and have won 20 or more games in 29 seasons during that span with a string of nine-straight from 1983-1992.
 
BLOCK PARTY
The Lady Buffs currently lead all of NCAA Division II Women's Basketball with 179 blocked shots on the season to average 6.2 per contest which ranks third in the nation. Abby Spurgin is sixth in the country with 77 total blocks this season followed by teammate Tiana Parker (67) in ninth. Spurgin has surpassed her 2018-19 block total which is sixth most by a Lady Buff in a single-season with Alicia Saunders (2005-06) holding the LSC and program record with 134 in a single-season.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME FINALIST
West Texas A&M's all-time winningest head women's basketball coach Bob Schneider has been tabbed a finalist for the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame for the second straight year.
 
In 43 seasons as a head coach at Darrouzett High School, McLean High School, Canyon High School, Texas Woman's University and West Texas A&M, Schneider racked up an incredible 1,045 wins. His greatest success came in the Canyon community where he led the CHS Lady Eagles to five State Championships and delivered nine Lone Star Conference Championships at the helm of the Lady Buffs.
 
Schneider was a six-time recipient of the Lone Star Conference Coach of Year Award during his time in Canyon as he finished his 25-year career at WT with an overall record of 585-163 (.784) including an incredible 237-47 (.836) mark in league action. He led the Lady Buffs to nine Lone Star Conference Championships, eight LSC Tournament Titles and three Regional Championships. Schneider coached nine All-American honorees during his time in Canyon.
 
NEW LOOK LSC
The Lone Star Conference welcomes seven new women's basketball members for the 2019-20 campaign with Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward's, St. Mary's, Texas A&M International, Arkansas-Fort Smith and UT Tyler. The league will now be comprised of three six-team divisions as each institution will play a home/away contest against each of the other teams within their division, and a single game versus the other 12 conference opponents.
 
Divisional champions and seeding for the LSC Championship will be determined by winning percentage within each division and by using overall league winning percentage and head-to-head matchups as tie-breakers. The LSC Championship returns to Frisco, Texas and the Comerica Center on March 5-8.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The #25 Lady Buffs picked up their fourth straight victory on Thursday night as WT's defense dominated the Midwestern State Mustangs, 66-34 in front of 1,000 fans at the First United Bank Center during LSC crossover action.
 
The Lady Buffs were led by Megan Gamble who went 3-of-3 from the field including 2-of-2 from deep and 6-of-7 from the free throw line to lead all players with 14 points. Braylyn Dollar registered her fifth double-double of the season as the sophomore finished the night with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Midwestern State was led offensively by Shawnisay Millar who went 1-of-6 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe for a team-high seven points to go along with four rebounds, Kityana Diaz and Elizabeth Cathcart chipped in six points each.
 
WT went 19-of-46 (41.3%) from the floor including 5-of-13 (38.5%) from deep and 23-of-34 (67.6%) from the free throw line to go along with 49 total rebounds (eight offensive, 41 defensive), 11 assists, 20 turnovers, eight steals and eight blocks in the win.
 
The Mustangs ended the game going 13-of-71 (18.3%) from the floor including 1-of-20 (5%) from behind the arc and 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the free throw line with 43 rebounds (18 offensive, 25 defensive), 10 assists, 13 turnovers, five steals and four blocks on the night.
