KANSAS CITY, Mo. – West Texas A&M's Ryan Quaid and Qua Grant have earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District honors. The Buffs are one of three schools in all of Division II men's basketball to have two players selected to the First Team (Nova Southeastern, Northwest Missouri State).
The All-District teams were selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC. The South Central District includes schools from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Heartland Conference and Lone Star Conference.
Quaid earns First Team honors for the first time in his career as the senior was named the D2CCA Region Player of the Year and LSC Player of the Year earlier this month. The four-year starter is having his best offensive season in Maroon & White averaging 15.9 points to go along with 7.7 rebounds per contest. He has scored in double figures in 29 games while scoring more than 20 points in 11 contests including a 29-point performance in the regional final against No. 4 St. Edward's en route to being named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
The Fort Collins, Colo. native is the program's all-time leader in games played (139), wins (114), rebounds (998) and ranks second in scoring (1,688). He is two rebounds short of becoming the first player in program history to record 1,600 points, 1,000 rebounds and 100 blocks in a career.
Grant is the lone freshman on the First Team as the Waxahachie, Texas native ranks second on the team in scoring (14.6) while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor, 36.7 percent from three and 68.7 percent from the free throw line. The LSC Freshman of the Year needed only 35 games to score 500 points making him the second fastest player under head coach Tom Brown to reach the feat behind David Chavlovich (31 games). He has scored at least 20 points in a freshman record nine games, eight of those coming in the past 14 games.
No. 3 West Texas A&M travels to Evansville, Ind. for the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for a matchup against No. 7-seed Southern Indiana on March 27, at 6 p.m.
