CANYON, Texas – The #13 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M gave up two early runs but battled back to take game one of Military Appreciation Weekend from the visiting Cameron Aggies during Lone Star Conference action at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.

The Lady Buffs and Aggies return to action tomorrow afternoon as they conclude Military Appreciation Weekend with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.

HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Aggies got on the board first in the top of the opening inning as a two out walk to Brenna Busby followed by a stolen base put a runner in scoring position before Callie Busby drove in her sister with an RBI to the right center field gap for the early 1-0 lead. Cameron added to their lead in the top of the second as Raley Long doubled to right center to extend the lead to 2-0.

Hailey Ward started off the bottom of the third with a walk followed by an
Alyx Cordell doubled down the left field line before Rylee Willmon forced a pair of popups at the top of the WT lineup, the Lady Buffs tied the game as a fielding error by the Aggies plated a pair of runs to make it 2-2 headed to the fourth.

Shayne Starkey started the home half of the fourth with a push-bunt single to the left side followed by a
Shanna McBroom bunt single to put runners on first and second, WT loaded the bases on a CU error before
Hailey Ward lifted a sac fly to left field to give the Lady Buffs their first lead of the game at 3-2.

The Lady Buffs added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth as
Kylee Moore doubled to left center to drive in
Kourtney Coveney from first base followed later in the inning by an
Allie Smith two-run single up the middle with two outs to make it 6-2.

WT wasn't done yet as
Ashley Hardin crushed a two-run homerun to straight away center field followed later in the inning by a delayed steal as Moore scored from third base to run the lead to 9-2.
Kilee Halbert picked up the win (16-5) in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up two runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in the complete game victory.
