WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The #15 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M scored 22 runs on Saturday afternoon including 17 in the doubleheader opener as they rolled past the rival Mustangs of Midwestern State to sweep a Highway 287 Challenge Cup three-game Lone Star Conference series at Mustang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The Lady Buffs return to Lone Star Conference action next weekend as they host the Falcons of UT Permian Basin for a three-game series during Easter Weekend starting on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Schaeffer Park in Canyon with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENENED (GAME 1):
West Texas A&M wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning as
Suka Van Gurp tied the program record for longest hitting streak at 20 games (Alyssa Lemos, 2013) with an RBI triple to center field followed later in the inning by an RBI single thru the left side by
Shanna McBroom and a two-run homerun to center field by
Shayne Starkey for the early 4-0 lead.

WT added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning as
Kylee Moore crushed a grand slam to right center with no outs to extend the lead to 8-0. The Lady Buffs continued their hot day at the plate in the top of the fifth inning as
Amy Reynolds reached on a fielding error to score a run followed by RBI singles by Starkey and
Allie Smith before
Ashley Hardin connected on WT's second grand slam of the afternoon with a bomb to center field to run the lead to 17-0. Hardin

Starkey picked up the win (10-0) in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up no runs on one hit with one walk and three strikeouts in the complete game shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENENED (GAME 2):
The Lady Buffs started off the scoring in the top of the first inning as
Kourtney Coveney scored on a wild pitch for the early 1-0 lead, Midwestern answered in the home half of the inning as Tucker Caraway lifted a solo homerun to center field to tie the game at 1-1.

It was all Lady Buffs the rest of the game as they plated three runs in the top of the second inning as
Alyx Cordell scored on an MSU error followed by a Moore two-run single to right field to extend the lead to 4-1. The Lady Buffs added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as
Amy Reynolds reached on another Mustang error as Moore came across to score for the 5-1 win and the series sweep.

Kilee Halbert picked up the win (12-4) in the circle for the Lady Buffs as the senior allowed one run on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts in the complete game victory.
