CANYON, Texas. – West Texas A&M Men's Basketball Coach Tom Brown announced the signing of Jake Gerber to the 2019-20 roster, adding another talented piece to one of the top programs in Division II basketball.
"Jake Gerber is a competitor and a winner," said Brown. "He has been a three sport athlete in basketball, football and tennis at Nazareth High School. Jake has competed as a multi sport athlete and that will only help him next year when he is at WT. I think it has really helped Jake to be able to play multiple sports. He has developed into a great athlete and was able to excel in all three sports before deciding to focus on hoops this year. He is someone we will count on to contribute to our WT team right away next year. He has good size, is tough and can play multiple positions for us. It has been fun to be able to recruit and watch Jake play these past couple of years."
Gerber, a 6-foot-3 guard, will be a four-year letterwinner at Nazareth High School where he has earned all-state honors three times. During his junior season, he led the Swifts to a runner-up finish at the UIL State Tournament while also being named the Amarillo Globe-News 1A Player of the Year after averaging 20 points per game while shooting 63.0% from the floor. He was also named to the Panhandle-Plains Basketball Super Team 2nd Team, District 4-A MVP, TSMCA 1st Team All-Region, TSMCA Player of the Year and TABC All-State.
As a sophomore, he was a key part of a Nazareth team that won the District title while earning MVP honors and being named to the TABC All-Region and All-State squads. During his freshman season he was named the District MVP while also earning TSMCA 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-State honors.
He is no stranger to success on the gridiron having been named to multiple all-district and all-state teams on both sides of the ball. On the tennis court, he has excelled helping the Swifts to a State title as a junior and a runner-up finish as a sophomore.
