CARY, N.C. – Former West Texas A&M women's soccer players Rhea Belgrave and Karyn Forbes have been called-up to represent Trinidad & Tobago in three CONCACAF Women's Championship matches this week at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. It will be the second time the duo has represented T&T at a CONCACAF Championships after finishing fourth in 2015.
The Lady Soca Warriors open against Panama on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. CT before taking on Mexico on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. CT. Play concludes for T&T Wednesday, Oct. 10 against the reigning World Cup Champions United States of America at 6:30 p.m. CT. All matches will be broadcast on FS2.
T&T, which is coached by Shawn Cooper, is the only Caribbean team to participate have participated in every CONCACAF Women's Championship after finished second to Jamaica in the Caribbean qualifying round earlier this season. Along with Cuba and Jamaica, T&T will compete with seven other countries for one of three available spots in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.
Forbes, the 2016 Lone Star Conference Midfielder, is no stranger to the national team having made 35 appearances since 2010. During her three-year career at WT, the 5-foot-11 midfielder earned First Team All-Lone Star Conference honors twice while also being named the D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches' All-Region teams. She scored seven goals and 10 assists in 42 appearances for the Maroon and White.
Belgrave has 28 caps of her own for the national team since making her debut on Nov. 18, 2009 in a 6-0 win over St. Kitts and Nevis. During her three-year career, Belgrave was one of the top defenders in the Lone Star Conference and South Central Region. During her senior season in 2014, she earned First Team All-Lone Star Conference, Daktronics First Team All-Region and United Soccer Coaches' Third Team All-Region honors. She was named the league's top defensive player as a junior while earning all-region honors.
