Lady Buffs Fight Back but Fall to Tarleton State in a Five Set Thriller on Friday Night

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs dropped the opening two sets then battled back to force a fifth and deciding set before falling to the rival TexAnns (12-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 12-15) in a five set thriller in front of over 500 fans at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon on Friday night. The Lady Buffs snap a four match win streak to fall to 6-5 (2-1 LSC) while the TexAnns improve to 10-2 (3-1 LSC).
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Libby Strickland with a career high 14 kills on 40 swings with just four attack errors to hit .250 on the night followed by Elisa Bentsen with 10 kills, Selena Batiste led WT with 26 assists on the night while Lauren Britten tallied 15 digs followed by Cori Haley with 14 and Kyli Schulz with 12. WT registered 42 kills on 162 swings with 28 attack errors to hit .086 as a team with 39 assists, 66 digs and 12 total blocks in the loss.
 
Tarleton State was led by the nation's leader in kills per set and points, Hailey Roberts, who tallied 31 kills on 81 swings with 18 attack errors to hit .160 in the match followed by Hannah McManus with 12 kills, Jordyn Keamo led all players with 58 assists to go along with 11 digs for a double-double while Adrianna Knutson registered a match high 30 assists followed by Michaela Rodriguez with 17 and Roberts with 14 for a double-double. TSU registered 68 kills on 193 swings with 41 attack errors to hit .140 as a team with 66 assists, 83 digs and nine total blocks.

The Lady Buffs will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they renew one of the biggest rivalries in all of Division II Volleyball against the #8 Belles of Angelo State with first serve set for 2 p.m. at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. ASU swept past UT Permian Basin on Friday night in Odessa.
