Blaskowski Reaches Another Milestone as the #1 Lady Buffs Rout Cameron Twice in Canyon

CANYON, Texas – The top ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M plated 20 runs on Friday night as they rolled past the visiting Aggies of Cameron in Lone Star Conference action with a doubleheader sweep during Military Appreciation Weekend at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs improve to 35-1 (17-1 LSC) on the season while the Aggies fall to 24-11 (9-5 LSC) with the losses. The win in the series opener gave WT head coach Kevin Blaskowski his 400th win at the helm of the Lady Buffs.
 
The Lady Buffs and Aggies conclude their weekend Lone Star Conference series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader set for 3 p.m. at Schaeffer Park.
 
GAME #1
The Aggies took the early lead in the top of the first frame as Annie Combs took a full count offering deep to left center field with two outs for a solo shot and the 1-0 lead. The Lady Buffs responded in the home half with a leadoff single by Stacey Ramirez followed by an Aggie error to put runners on second and third, Shea Ibrahim lifted a ball to left field for a sacrifice fly followed by a Lacey Taylor RBI single to right center to give WT the 2-1 lead.
 
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the third as Ibrahim led off the frame with a frozen rope double off of the left center field wall before Taylor layed down a bunt single to third and no Aggies covered the bag at first so an errant throw to the right field corner as Ibrahim raced around to score and Taylor ended up at third. Allie Smith drove in Taylor with a single up the middle followed later in the inning by a Kourtney Coveney double off of the center field wall to run the WT lead to 5-1.
 
The Lady Buffs weren't done yet as they capitalized on another Cameron error as Ramirez reached via another bunt single and moved to second on an errant throw, Ibrahim drove in another run with a sac fly to center followed by a Taylor single and Ashley Hardin RBI double to the right center field gap to run the WT lead to 7-1. WT would end the game in the home half of the fifth inning as Kylee Moore launched a pinch-hit two run blast to left center field to give the Lady Buffs the 9-1 win and Coach B his 400th win at the helm in Canyon. Kilee Halbert picked up the win (13-1) for WT, giving up one run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts in the complete game win.
 
GAME #2
The Lady Buffs wasted no time in the nightcap as Ibrahim drove in two runs with a double off of the black monster in left field followed by a Hardin RBI single thru the left side with no outs, Coveney added to the lead with a sac fly to right field with the bases loaded and one out before a Brittany Cruz single to center field and a Ramirez two-run double down the left field line to give the Lady Buffs the 7-0 lead after one inning of play. WT added to their lead in the home half of the second as Shaye Starkey singled to second base followed by a wild pitch to plate Hardin from third with two outs to run the WT lead to 9-0.
 
The Aggies responded in the top of the fourth inning with a Sonora Zukerman solo bomb over the black monster in left field with one out, WT responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with a Moore pinch-hit double off of the center field wall to score pinch runner Tiffanie Bolanos from second base followed by a Coveney RBI single up the middle to run the WT lead to 11-1. Alexis Alfonso picked up the win (7-0) for the Lady Buffs, giving up one run on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts in the complete game win.
