David Chavlovich added another honor to his already impressive resume on Monday afternoon as the Arlington native was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-South Central Regions 1
st Team released Monday by the D2 Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America. The guard now moves on the D2CCA ballot to become an All-American.
Chavlovich, the 2016 Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, registered one of the single best seasons in WT Basketball history as a sophomore in 2015-16. He finished his sophomore campaign with 634 career points to rank second all-time in program history behind Damien Lolar's 650 points in 2006-07. The Arlington native set a new program single-season record in three-point field goals made (111) and three-point field goals attempted (287).
Chavlovich joined the 1,000 Point Club back on February 10th with 25 points in a loss at then #25 Midwestern State. Chavlovich has now registered an impressive 1,097 career points in his two season in a WT uniform as the sophomore leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring this season with 20.5 points per game. To reach the career top-10 for the Buffs, the Arlington native needs 1,138 points for a tie for 10th with WTAMU Hall of Champions member Troy Burrus (1952-54). WT's all-time leading scorer is Martin Lattibeaudiere with 1,566 career points in 112 games from 1993-97.
Colorado Mesa's Ryan Stephan earned South Central Region Player of the Year honors after averaging 26 points and 11 rebounds per game. Joining Stephan on the first team are Chavlovich, Colorado Mines junior forward Gokul Natesan, Oklahoma Christian junior center John Moon and Tarleton State senior forward E.J. Reed. The second team consists of Midwestern State senior forward Khapri Alston, Colorado-Colorado Springs senior forward Alex Welsh, Angelo State senior guard Tre Bennett, New Mexico Highlands senior guard Jonathan Mines and Rogers State senior guard J.C. Hartzler.
