CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M freshman first baseman
Kylee Moore drove in six runs with two homeruns to led the #22 Lady Buffs in a 12-0 run-rule win over Chadron State in front of over 400 fans at Schaeffer Park during the WT Invitational in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs move to 7-0 on the season while the Eagles fall to 4-4-1 overall.
The Eagles threatened in the top of the first inning as their leadoff runner reached via a Lady Buff error but
Alexis Alfonso answered with a strikeout followed by a popup to
Shea Ibrahim at third followed by a groundout to the South Jordan native to end the frame at 0-0.
Stacey Ramirez led off the bottom of the frame with an infield single followed by a pair of bunt singles by
Brittany Gehle and Ibrahim before a
Lacey Taylor bases loaded walk to score a run, an Eagles error plated another WT run followed by a flyout to left before
Kylee Moore crushed a grand slam over the scoreboard in straightaway center field for the 6-0 lead.
Chadron State looked to cut into the lead in the top of the second as their first two hitters reached with a single and a hit-by-pitch, CSC moved the runners up 60 feet with a sacrifice bunt followed by Alfonso's second strikeout of the game before a ground ball to Ibrahim at the hot corner to end the threat at 6-0. Ibrahim led off the home half with a double to center field followed by a Taylor base hit before a flyout to left,
Allie Smith singled to center field to score Ibrahim to run the Lady Buff lead to 7-0.
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the third as
Brittany Cruz tripled off of the right field wall followed by a Ramirez single up the middle to run the lead to 8-0. Chadron cut into the lead in the top of the third as they loaded the bases with one out followed by a pair of fielder's choice to end the threat at 8-0. The Lady Buffs weren't done yet as they used a Smith RBI double followed a few batters later by Moore's second homerun of the game and a Cruz RBI double to right field at 12-0.
Alfonso picked up the win in the circle (3-0) as the Tucson native gave up no runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeout in the complete game shutout during her first career start at Schaeffer Park. The Lady Buffs return to action immediately following the conclusion of this game as they take on #12 St. Mary's in a matchup of the last two South Central Regional Champions in a NFCA Division II Top-5 Game to Watch.
