COMMERCE, Texas – Seven members of the Lone Star Conference co-champion Lady Buffs soccer team were honored for their performance on the field and in the classroom Wednesday night as the league announced their annual postseason soccer awards at a banquet in Commerce ,Texas heading into the start of the 216 LSC Championships.
The West Texas A&M women's soccer team claimed their second LSC regular season title in program history as they finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-5 and 9-5 in conference play tying atop the leaderboard with Texas A&M-Commerce. Â The Lady Buffs finished the regular season winning eight of their final nine matches including eight straight.
Karyn Forbes, Khadisha Debesette and Khadidra Debesette were named to the All-LSC First Team while Marlene van Mourik and Brady Prescott picked up Second Team honors. Ronni Ajeto and Courtney Dippel were named to the Honorable Mention Team while Dippel was also named to the All-Academic Team.
Forbes was named the LSC Midfielder of the Year as the senior midfielder has made eight starts for the Lady Buffs this season. The Plymouth, Trinidad & Tobago native was also named to the All-LSC First Team for the second year in a row as she has scored one goal and a team-high four assists in 12 appearances for WT. She will finish her three year career having scored seven goals, 11 points for 25 points in over 3,000 minutes.
Chad Webb picks up his second LSC Coach of the Year (2012) as the Lubbock, Texas native has led the Lady Buffs to their second consecutive 10-plus win season and the second LSC regular season title in program history. Now in his seventh season, Webb has lead the Lady Buffs to led WT to consecutive LSC tournament appearances for the first time since 2012-13 and earned his 60th career win on Oct. 14 with a 2-0 win over UT Permian Basin.
On the academic side, Dippel was named to the All-Academic Team for the first time in her career as the Belton, Texas native holds a 3.81 GPA in sports and exercise science. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
The Lady Buffs will host the winner of Thursday night's 3/6 matchup on Friday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. in the semifinals of the LSC tournament. Links to live stats and video can be found at GoBuffsGo.com under the women's schedule page.
