CANYON, Texas – The top-ranked West Texas A&M women's basketball team completes its three-game road swing Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Angelo State. The Lady Buffs are 15-0 on the year and 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play, while Angelo State is 8-4 and 1-1 in league play.

In the polls this week, WT remains No. 1 in the 2015-16 USA Today Sports NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll for the second week in a row. The Lady Buffs garnered 594 points in this week's poll and 18 first place votes. Alaska-Anchorage remained in the second spot in the poll with 536 points and one first place vote and Fort Hays State stayed third with 510 points. Lubbock Christian moved up to fourth with 507 points and four first place votes, while Cal Baptist dropped a spot to fifth with 478 points to round out the top five. Missouri Western State (10
th) garnered the remaining first place vote.
The Lady Buffs remained fifth in the D2 SIDA Poll this week as voted on by select sports information directors from around the country. LCU sits second in the poll this week behind Limestone (S.C.). Ashland (Ohio) is third, followed by Alaska-Anchorage and the Lady Buffs.
WT is coming off an impressive week winning all three games last week, including two road games at Texas Woman's and at Cameron 24 hours apart. WT won 59-41 at Texas Woman's and then battled back from down 30-29 at halftime for a 46-22 second half spurt and a 76-52 victory at Cameron on Sunday. The Lady Buffs opened the week with an 85-68 home win over Midwestern State last Wednesday pulling within 8.5-4.5 in the annual Highway 287 Challenge.
For the week, the Lady Buffs shot .446 from the field on 74 of 166 and blistered from beyond the arc shooting 18 of 42 for a .429 clip and were 54 of 73 from the line for a .740 average. WT pulled down 40.3 rebounds and scored 73.3 points per game for the week. The defense held the opposition to a .323 clip from the field and just .226 from beyond the arc. The opponents averaged 33.0 rebounds and scored 53.7 points.
Individually, senior
Michaela Neuhaus had a career week as she went 9 of 15 with six triples and a career-high 26 points at Cameron on Sunday. For the week, she was 16 of 26 from the field (.615) and 9 of 15 from beyond the arc (.600), while going 8 of 9 from the line for a 16.3 scoring average.
Defensively, senior
Zantaya Davis has been coming on as she tallied 10 blocks (four at Cameron) in the three games, while shooting 10 of 23 from the field and 10 of 16 from the line, pulling down seven rebounds per game and averaging 10 points per contest. Junior
Sasha Watson tallied 13 assists for the week, while going 20 of 25 from the line and recorded seven steals.
In the game Sunday at Cameron, the Lady Buffs trailed at halftime for just the second time all season (vs. Colorado Mesa) and have won both when trailing at intermission. Both times, huge second halves have followed as WT outscored CMU 32-21 in the second half, including 16-5 in the fourth quarter. Against Cameron, WT outscored the Aggies 47-22 in the second half and 26-9 in the fourth quarter. For the season, WT has put teams away in the final stanza, outscoring the opposition 296-205 for the second largest differential (279-185 in the second quarter).
The Lady Buffs have had quite a winning streak over the last four years as the 15-0 start this season is the second-best start in school history behind a 33-0 start in the 1987-88 season. The No. 1 ranking is the second time (during the season) WT has been the top team in the country (1987-88). The Lady Buffs were preseason No. 1 before the 2014-15 season. WT lost its opener 77-73 at home to UT-Permian Basin to begin the season. Since Feb. 9, 2013, the Lady Buffs are 40-2 against LSC teams during the regular season and 55-3 in all games including the LSC Tournament and NCAA postseason.
WT is 22-0 against LSC in home games since Feb. 9, 2013. Following the home loss to UTPB beginning last season, WT has won 22-straight home games. The Lady Buffs have won 13-straight road games overall dating back to the loss at Midwestern State (Jan. 7, 2015), in the LSC opener last season. WT has won its last nine LSC road game dating back to the above loss.
For the season, the Lady Buffs are led by Neuhaus who leads the team averaging 10.6 points per game. She is 52 of 103 from the field (.505) and a team-best 25 of 59 from beyond the arc (.424), while going 30 of 33 from the line (.909). She is second in assists (51) and second in steals (28). Watson is second in scoring at 10.5 points per game on 49 of 105 from the field (.467). She is 55 of 82 from the line (.671) and leads the team with 67 assists and 33 steals. Junior
Maddison Wild is third in scoring at 8.0 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 per game. Davis leads the team with 24 blocks as she was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career this week. Davis is second in rebounding at 5.0 per game.
As a team, the Lady Buffs are shooting .453 from the field on 389 of 859. They are 85 of 241 from beyond the arc (.353) and 229 of 329 from the line for a .696 clip. WT is averaging 41.7 rebounds per game and scoring 72.8 points per contest. Defensively, WT is holding teams to a .337 shooting clip and just .268 from beyond the arc on 80 of 298. The opponents are shooting 132 of 199 from the line (.663) as the Lady Buffs have made more free throws than the opposition has attempted. The Lady Buffs are allowing 31.2 rebounds per game and 51.3 points per game.
In conference play, Neuhaus is averaging 12.8 points per game to lead the team, while Wild is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game and 10.8 points per game. Neuhaus is 17 of 30 from the field (.567) and a team-best 9 of 18 from beyond the arc (.500). Watson has been to the line 31 times in four conference games, making 24 (.774). As a team, WT is shooting .441 from the field and a blistering .400 from beyond the arc on 24 of 60 and are 71 of 96 from the line for a .740 clip.

Angelo State is under the direction of first year head coach Kevin Baker who is no stranger to the Lady Buff basketball program. Baker was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Lady Buffs helping guide the team to a 120-36 record and three LSC championships. Baker and the Lady Buffs made four NCAA appearances and an Elite Eight trip in 2008-09.
The Rambelles certainly have excelled under his guidance this season as they are 8-4 overall and 1-1 in LSC play following a 9-18 season in 2014-15. This season, Angelo State started 6-1, but has gone 2-3 since. Taylor Dorsey leads three players in double figures with a league-best 18.2 points per game. She is 81 of 170 from the field (.476) and second in triples at 18 of 57 (.316), while leading the team in free throw shooting going 38 of 54 (.704). She is second on the team in rebounding at 5.4 per game and leads the team with 50 assists and 21 steals. Second in scoring is Brea Mitchell at 10.9 points per game. She is 52 of 104 from the field, while leading the team in rebounding at 5.5 per game. Jasmine Prophet is third in scoring at 10.3 points per game. She is 48 of 95 from the field and 28 of 31 from the line, while pulling down 5.3 rebounds. KeAnna Kelly leads the team with 21 made triples.
As a team, ASU is shooting .446 from the field which is second in the LSC to WT on 368 of 825. ASU is second in the LSC in 3-point field goal percentage at a .361 clip (Cameron) and second in free throw percentage at .757 (Tarleton State). ASU is averaging 42 rebounds per game and scoring a league-best 83.2 points per game, while allowing teams to shoot .420 from the field, .342 from beyond the arc and .686 from the line. The opposition is averaging 36.7 rebounds per game and scoring 70.3 points per game.
The game features the top two teams in the LSC in assists, field goal percentage, scoring margin and scoring offense. ASU leads the league in assist/turnover ratio (1.22) ranking 14

WT leads the all-time series with Angelo State 47-13. WT has won seven-straight in the series and 12 of 13. ASU's last win was a 77-71 double overtime victory in San Angelo on Dec. 1, 2012. WT leads the all-time series in San Angelo 18-8. WT won three meetings last season, including an 87-46 win in the conference tournament first round and a 67-50 win in San Angelo on Feb. 4, 2015.
Following the game, WT will return home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First United Bank Center.
