BALL PICKS UP WEEKLY HONORS: Senior Antjuan Ball was honored on Monday afternoon as the LSC Defensive Player of the Week. Ball is the second Buff to pick up defensive weekly honors from the LSC this season after leading WT to two wins last week thanks to two-consecutive double-doubles.

Ball was huge on the offensive and defensive end for the Buffs in two wins last week over Langston at home and Eastern New Mexico on the road. He tallied double-doubles in each contest with 11 boards in each game. Of those 22 rebounds, 18 were on the defensive glass.  On the week, he also tallied two assists, five blocks and one steal while averaging 16.0 points per game. Ball would help the WT defense in holding those two opponents to just .381 shooting from the field and forcing 17.5 turnovers per game.

WT defeated Langston, 92-71, last Tuesday inside the First United Bank Center in what would be the Buffs' final non-conference contest of the season. In that game, Ball led the way with 19 points in that matchup with 11 rebounds, two assists, and a block while going 7-for-12 from the floor, including five dunks, and 1-for-1 from long range. In his next outing, a 76-73 victory over the rival Greyhounds on the road, Ball tallied 13 points with 11 boards, four blocks, and a steal.

DUMARS IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Senior Tez Dumars is having an excellent final season with the Buffs which will cap off a solid four-year WT career. He is currently tied at 11th in career points scored for WT with 1,110 entering Wednesday after eclipsing the 1,000 point total on Jan. 7 at Midwestern State. He is just two points away from cracking the top-10 in the category. Dumars ranks high in several other career school marks, including second in 3-point field goals attempted (503), third in 3-point field goals made (172), ninth in games played (104), and ninth in field goals attempted (886).

HEAD COACH TOM BROWN: WT welcomed in its 17th head coach in program history in the spring of 2014 in Tom Brown who comes to Canyon after an impressive career as the Associate Head Coach at Winona State, one of the most successful Division II men's basketball programs in recent history. Brown coached the Warriors to two National Championships and three appearances in the title game while at WSU. His accomplishments there also include four Elite Eight appearances, six conference championships, five conference tournament titles, 10-straight 20 win seasons, 10 All-Americans and three National Players of the Year.

ANGELO STATE AT A GLANCE: The Rams own a 19-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in LSC competition as they sit atop the league in sole possession of first place. They come into Wednesday's contest against WT ranked seventh in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll. ASU began the season with five-straight wins before suffering its lone loss of the year thus far, a 70-67 decision to Colorado Mesa on the road on Nov. 28. Since, the Rams have rolled to a 14-game winning streak.

ASU owns the top offense in the league as it comes in to this week averaging 90.7 points per game, just shy of 10 points higher than the second-ranked team (Texas A&M-Commerce, 81.3). The Rams are outscoring their opponents by 27.6 points, by far the top scoring margin in the LSC. ASU also has the best field-goal percentage of any conference team, shooting .545 from the floor. It also leads the LSC in assists (19.7 APG) and steals (9.6 SPG).

Senior guard Chris Jones tops the conference individually in both steals and assists at 2.8 steals per game and an impressive 5.3 assists per game. The Rams are led in scoring by senior guard/forward Demario Mayfield who is averaging 16.1 points per game. Three additional Rams are averaging double figures: Jones (15.3), Marsell Holden (14.2), and Raijon Kelly (10.9).

The Buffs own a 38-22 advantage in the all-time series with the Rams; however, have lost three straight, including an 88-60 decision in Canyon earlier this season.

EASTERN NEW MEXICO REVISITED: Strong defense in the final minutes of the game made the difference in a tight contest in Portales, as the WT pulled out a hard-fought 76-73 road victory over rival Eastern New Mexico on Saturday night. With the win, the Buffs improved to 13-8 (3-4, LSC). The Greyhounds fell to 7-13 and remain winless in Lone Star Conference play at 0-7.

Ball had another strong night, putting up numbers reflecting his second-straight double-double and 11th of his career. He contributed 13 points off of 5-for-8 shooting and grabbed 11 boards, a season-high 10 on the defensive end, to go along with four blocks and a steal.

Leading the way for the Buffs; however, was freshman David Chavlovich who put up 17 points from 3-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc. He added in four rebounds and two assists. Chavlovich has now led WT in scoring eight times this season.

The Buffs finished the night 28-for-55 (.510) from the floor, their sixth time shooting above .500 as a team this season. ENMU would struggle throughout, going 26-for-73 (.360). WT would have a hard time again from the line, making just 14-of-27 (.520).

Senior Miles Gatewood finished the game with 16 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Dumars would also finish in double-figures with 12 points off of 5-for-10 shooting with four boards and three assists.

The Buffs now improve to 64-18 all-time against the Greyhounds and end a three-game skid against the rivals from Portales. The two teams will meet again on Feb. 28 to end the regular season in Canyon. That will be a 4 p.m. tipoff.
