Buffs Look for Third-Straight LSC Win Saturday at Cameron

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's basketball team will be back in action this Saturday, Feb. 14, for a road rematch against Cameron. The Buffs and Aggies will tipoff from Aggie Gym in Lawton, Okla. at approximately 4 p.m., or at the conclusion of the women's game. WT heads into the game with a 15-9 overall record and 5-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Cameron enters Saturday with a 11-11 mark and 3-7 LSC record where it sits at sixth place in the league standings, just behind WT.

DUMARS WELCOMED INTO THE 1,000-POINT CLUB: Prior to last Saturday's game against Texas A&M-Kingsville, senior Tez Dumars was honored at center court. In his fourth year with the Buffs, Dumars became the 18th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points. The Dallas, Texas, native did so on Jan. 7 in Wichita Falls during a road contest against MSU. During the game Saturday against TAMUK, Dumars also increased his total to 1,148 career points, moving himself into ninth place on the school's all-time career scoring list. He would jump up again to eighth on Wednesday against MSU, now with 1,163 points.
 
#WTDARKHORSE ANTJUAN BALL: Senior Antjuan Ball has been selected as one of 16 finalists nationally who is competing in the State Farm Dark Horse Dunker Competition. First round voting began Wednesday, Feb. 11, and will go till Wednesday, Feb. 18, in a bracket-style format, where the winner each week advances on until a final fan favorite is selected. The winner of the competition will earn the final roster spot in the 2015 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, which will be aired live on ESPN will take place during Final Four Weekend in Indianapolis, Ind. The winner will be solely determined by the fans and ballots can be cast once per day per platform (ex. Twitter, Facebook, Email). It can be found on www.DarkHorseDunker.com, a site which will be. First-round voting will end exactly one week from its start time, at 12 p.m. (C.T.) on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
 
IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Freshman guard David Chavlovich continues to impress in his first year with the Buffs as he is the team's second-leading scorer with 15.7 PPG. He ranks seventh in the LSC within the category and leads all freshmen in the league. He has been lethal from beyond the arc as well, ranked fourth in the LSC in 3FG% at .395 while topping all league individuals in 3FG attempts, 3FG's made, and made-per-game. Additionally, fellow freshman Carl White has made a huge presence on the defensive side of the ball, ranking fourth in the LSC in blocks averaging 1.3 per game with 32 total.
 
HELPING HAND: Senior Miles Gatewood has seen large improvements in nearly every area of his game after transferring in last season. He currently ranks fourth in the LSC in assists, dishing out 4.1 helpers per game with 98 total. Gatewood also improved his shooting hand from long range. He currently sits fifth in 3FG% in the LSC at .372 from beyond the arc, going 54-for-145. Gatewood has also more than doubled his rebounding output, grabbing 100 boards this year in 24 games, compared to just 43 in 27 outings a year ago.
 
KEEP ON TICKING: The Buffs are certainly racking up the minutes this season with only 10 active players on the roster. Three of WT's starters occupy the LSC's top-five in minutes played per game, including Dumars (first, 32.6), Chavlovich (third, 32.0), and Gatewood (fourth, 31.7).
 
HEAD COACH TOM BROWN: WT welcomed in its 17th head coach in program history in the spring of 2014 in Tom Brown who comes to Canyon after an impressive career as the Associate Head Coach at Winona State, one of the most successful Division II men's basketball programs in recent history. Brown coached the Warriors to two National Championships and three appearances in the title game while at WSU. His accomplishments there also include four Elite Eight appearances, six conference championships, five conference tournament titles, 10-straight 20 win seasons, 10 All-Americans and three National Players of the Year.
