SAN ANGELO, Texas  – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team put together one of its best defensive performance of the season to defeat Midwestern State 1-0 in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals on Thursday night. Karyn Forbes absolute rocket of a shot in the 41st minute from 45 yards out was all the offense the Lady Buffs needed as WT defeated MSU on a neutral field for the first time since 2007.

Forbes caused the Mustangs problems from the start with two shots in the first 15 minutes. Haley Girard nearly scored in the 17th minute but was denied by Courtney Burnette. After the 25th minute both teams struggled to find any rhythm before Forbes scored her fifth of the season. After earning a free kick near midfield, Forbes sent the ball towards goal with so much power the Burnette was only able to get a hand on it as it sailed into the upper netting. The Lady Buffs controlled the first 45 minutes holding a 7-3 advantage in shots over the Mustangs.

MSU had three shots in the first five minutes of the second half but were unable to trouble WT's Courtney Dippel. The Lady Buffs found their own rhythm ten minutes into the half with shots from Ashlee Craig, Alejandra Dockery and Khadidra Debesette. They continued to pressure MSU and prevented them from finding any open space in the midfield. When the Mustangs did press forward, Dippel was there to make the saves. She made two crucial saves on Katie Huff and Destinee Williamson to preserve the victory for the Lady Buffs.
