SAN ANGELO, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team will play in the Lone Star Conference Championship for the second time in three years after defeating #4 Angelo State1-0 on Friday evening in San Angelo. A first half goal from
Lucy Chalgren and seven saves from
Courtney Dippel gave the Lady Buffs their first victory over the Rambelles this season.
The Lady Buffs were ousthot 18-12 but were able to get more shots on goal (8) than the Rambelles (7). WT also forced ASU goalkeeper Shantell Wittke to make five save in the second half. WT's defense held LSC Offensive Player of the Year, Haley Mendel, to two shots in 52 minutes of action.
The Lady Buffs came out on all cylinders with three shots in the first 10 minutes including two from
Karyn Forbes. After gaining more possession of the ball, ASU found a rhythm as both Elizabeth Rodriguez and Sierra Anderson got shots on goal but were denied by Dippel. WT struck first when Chalgren got on the end of a loose ball in the box and slotted it past Wittke. They nearly doubled their advantage just a minute later but Forbes shot went wide.
ASU was desperate to equalize as Rodriguez and Anderson once again provided the offense but were denied by the WT defense. The Rambelles were once again denied by Dippel in the 41
st minute on a shot from Payton Shlemon.
At the start of the second half, it was the Rambelles who came out with the momentum and looked to pull the match even. Demi Tsambasis saw her shot blocked in the 47
th minute while Rodriguez's short sailed wide in the 56
th. The Lady Buffs countered with a shot from
Brady Prescott in the 65
th and
Karyn Forbes in 70
th.
With time winding down, ASU brought more pressure up front but WT's was up for the challenge. Dippel and the defense denied Tiffany Dang, Analise Watson and Anderson in the final ten minute. The Rambelles final attempt to equalize came with 10 seconds left with Dippel denying Lauren Perry and securing victory for the Lady Buffs.
TURNING POINTLucy Chalgren scored her second goal of the season and eventual game-winner in the 17
th minute.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS-
Karyn Forbes had a match-high six shots, including five on goal.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE- Chalgren's goal in the 17
th minute ended a 196 minute scoreless streak for WT against ASU this season.
- Dippel has recorded a shutout in three of WT's last four matches.

NEWS & NOTES- The Lady Buffs have now defeated the Rambelles in five straight LSC tournament matches.
- The last time the Lady Buffs played Texas A&M-Commerce in the LSC tournament came in 2008. WT defeated the Lions, 1-0, in the LSC title match.

Chad Webb improved his record to 6-2 in the LSC tournament. His lone two losses have come in overtime or penalty kicks.
