ROCKWALL, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team allowed a late goal in the second half in a 2-1 loss against Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday night. The match was originally scheduled to be played last night (Oct. 23) but was postponed and moved to Kyle Field in Rockwall due to massive amount of rain received in Commerce. With the loss, the Buffs record falls to 6-8-1 and 3-4-1 in conference play.
TAMUC had a nearly perfect start toe the match with three shots in the first six minute. Vicky Back was able to convert one of those shots into her 10
th goal of the season after Madison Cordts hit the cross bar. The Lady Buffs responded well with shots by
Khadisha Debesette and
Karyn Forbes in the 12
th minute.
Brady Prescott nearly leveled the match in the 34
th minute but she was denied by Courtnie Northern. WT finally broke through in 41
st minute when Forbes found the back of the net on an assist from
Ashlee Craig.
At the start of the second half, the Lady Buffs pushed numbers forward and nearly grabbed in the 61
st minute but
Khadidra Debesette's shot was blocked. WT continued to attack but were unable to find the back of the net as Forbes shot banged off the crossbar in the 72
nd minute. After a shot from
Khadidra Debesette in the 83
rd minute, TAMUC used a counter attack to score the game winner. Savannah Grasser found Bell who calmly slotted home her fourth goal of the season. WT was unable to find an equalizer late as both Prescott and Forbes shots were off target in the final minutes.
TURNING POINTJade Bell's goal in the 84
th minute proved to be the game winner.
