WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The #25 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M dropped 11 of the first 15 points of their Saturday afternoon match with Oklahoma Baptist but responded to take the three set win over the Bison (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) at the Rankin Williams Fieldhouse on the campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The win runs the WT win streak to 16 matches as they move to 24-3 on the season while the Bison fall to 20-10 overall.
The Bison came out fast to start the match as they used a pair of WT attack errors to take the early 4-2 lead before the OBU offense started to click as they grabbed the 11-4 advantage before

Jessica Johnson in the middle for a pair of kills followed by a Hayes service ace and a
Lauren Bevan finish to cut the lead to 12-9. A Bison attack error continued the WT run highlighted by a pair of
Lexi Davis kills to tie the match at 13-13 before OBU answered with two kills and a block to retake the lead at 16-14,
Kyli Schulz found Hayes on the outside before a pair of WT errors ran the score to 18-15 followed by another Hayes kill and a Davis service ace that tied the match again at 18-18. Hayes found
Sydney Harlan for a pair of kills to take the lead and start another WT run that forced an OBU timeout at 21-19, Johnson registered two more kills after the break to take the 23-19 lead into a Lady Buff timeout followed by a
Cori Haley kill and a Harlan finish to take the opening set 25-20.
The two teams came out swinging in the second set as they split the first eight points of the frame before a huge solo block by Davis and kills by Hayes and Harlan to spark a small WT run before the Bison tied the frame at 8-8 on a Lady Buffs attack error. Schulz found Harlan on the outside to break the tie as the Lady Buffs registered five of the next six points in the frame heading into a WT timeout at 13-9, the Bison battled back to cut the lead to 18-17 before a Bison service error followed by a Johnson kill before OBU fought back to tie the set at 20-20. The teams traded points again followed by another Johnson finish and a block by Davis and Bevan to run the lead to 23-21 to force a Bison timeout, an OBU attack error would bring up set point at 24-21 followed by Hayes finding Haley on the outside for the 25-21 decision.
The third set saw the teams trade the opening 16 points of the frame before an OBU ball handling error followed by a Harlan kill and a block by Johnson and Haley gave the Lady Buffs the 11-8 lead, the teams traded points before a Haley kill was immediately followed by a Johnson and Haley block to force an OBU timeout with the Lady Buffs leading 14-9. The teams continued to battle after the break before a pair of OBU attack errors at 17-11 started a WT run highlighted by kills from Hayes, Davis and Bevan to run the lead to 21-12.
McKenzie Long registered a service ace followed by an OBU kill and a Davis finish to force match point, the WT defense would end the match on a block by Johnson and Hayes to give the Lady Buffs the 25-13 win.
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Johnson with nine kills followed by Bevan, Hayes and Harlan with eight each on the afternoon, Hayes dished out a team high 26 assists for the double-double while Schulz had 14.
Lauren Britten led the team with 22 digs on the afternoon followed by
Aspen Sanders with 10. West Texas A&M hit .265 as a team with 44 kills on 117 swings with 13 attack errors to go along with 42 assists, 51 digs and five total blocks in the match.
Oklahoma Baptist was led by Shekinah Sharpe with eight kills followed by Priscila Mendes with seven while Denise Coroieuscu and Cadyn Laing had six each, Ezgi Guney led all players with 29 assists on the afternoon while teammate Valerie Stetzer had 17 digs in the match. The Bison hit .099 as a team with 35 kills on 121 attempts with 23 attack errors to go along with 35 assists, 52 digs and six total blocks in the match.
The Lady Buffs return to action tonight as they finish their weekend action with a matchup against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State with first serve set for 7 p.m. at the Rankin Williams Fieldhouse in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
