#25 Lady Buffs Run Their Win Streak to 17 Matches with Sweep of Bulldogs

WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma –
The #25 Lady Buffs of Wes Texas A&M used a fast start on Saturday night as they registered their 17th straight victory with a sweep of the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) at the Rankin Williams Fieldhouse in Weatherford, Oklahoma. WT moves to 25-3 overall this season while the Bulldogs fall to 8-13 with the loss.
 
The first set saw the teams come out swinging as they split the opening 12 points of the match before the Lady Buffs used a SWOSU attack error followed by a Lauren Bevan kill to spark a WT run that saw a Sydney Harlan kill from Kameryn Hayes force a Bulldog timeout at 12-7, Hayes found Jessica Johnson on the slide play after the break to continue the WT run followed by a Lexi Davis service ace and a Harlan kill to stretch the lead to 16-10. The teams traded points as the Bulldogs fought back to tie the set at 18-18 followed by a SWOSU attack error and a Davis kill on the quick set from Hayes before a Lauren Britten service ace forced a Bulldog timeout at 21-19, a WT attack error gave the Bulldogs the serve but a Davis kill on an over pass followed by Bevan cross-court kill ran the lead to 23-19. Kyli Schulz found Davis on the quick set to force set point followed by a pair of SWOSU points and another Davis kill to give WT the 25-21 win.
 
Cori Haley started off the second set with a kill followed by another Britten service ace as the Lady Buffs started off the frame on a run with the 10-6 lead followed by kills from Harlan, Bevan and Haley to run their lead to 13-8, the teams traded points before both WT seniors registered kills to force a SWOSU timeout with the Lady Buffs leading 16-9. The teams traded points after the break before a Bulldog block forced a WT timeout at 19-13 followed by a SWOSU kill before a Bulldogs serve found the net at 20-14, a pair of Southwestern attack errors forced a Bulldog timeout at 22-14. Hayes continued her run at the service line after the break as kills by Harlan and Haley forced set point at 24-15, a Bulldog kill was answered by another Haley finish as WT took the second set, 25-16.
 
The third set saw the teams split the opening 18 points of the frame before the Bulldogs used a pair of kills and a WT blocking error to take the 12-9 lead, the teams traded blows before a SWOSU kill and block ran their lead to 14-11 before Hayes found Bevan on the outside and a Davis kill two points later to make it 15-13. The two continued to trade points as SWOSU held the 19-17 lead before Hayes found Johnson on the quick set kill followed by a Davis finish to tie the set at 19-19 to force a SWOSU timeout, Bevan connected on a pair of kills after the break including one on an errant Bulldog over pass to force another home timeout at 21-19. The teams traded kills as Bevan continued to dominate to run the lead to 23-20 before a Schulz service ace forced match point, the Bulldogs wouldn't go down without a fight as they cut the lead to 24-21 before a Davis kill on the quick set ended the match at 25-21.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Bevan with 14 kills followed by Davis with 11 while Hayes and Harlan had seven each on the night, Hayes led all players in assists with 26 while Schulz had 16 to go along with 13 digs for the double-double. West Texas A&M hit .352 as a team with 49 kills on 108 swings with 11 attack errors to go along with 47 assists, 59 digs and just three total blocks on the night.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma was led by Joey Collins who tied a match high with 14 kills followed by Carly Zak with 13 and Taylor VanderWerff with six, Brandy Mader dished out a team high 21 assists on the night while Kaila Lancaster led all players with 15 digs. The Bulldogs hit .202 as a team with 40 kills on 124 attempts with 15 attack errors to go along with 35 assists, 45 digs and four blocks in the match.
 
The Lady Buffs return to Lone Star Conference action next weekend as they hit the road for a huge weekend to face off with the rival Belles of Angelo State on Friday night at 7 p.m. followed by a trip to Stephenville to take on Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Lady Buffs will enter the weekend with a three game lead in the league with just four conference matches remaining.
