Javelinas Come to Canyon Saturday for the Lady Buff Volleyball 50th Anniversary Celebration

CANYON, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will put their 32 match Lone Star Conference win streak on the line this Saturday as the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville come to Canyon for league action with first serve set for 2 p.m. at the WTAMU Fieldhouse. Saturday will also see former Lady Buffs return to "The Box" for a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the program.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M split the opening two sets before using an 11-3 run to end the third frame in a four set win (25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23) over the rival Zias of Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday night at Greyhound Arena in Portales, New Mexico to move to 19-3 overall with a perfect 10-0 mark in LSC play to sit alone atop of the league standings. The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Kameryn Hayes with 12 kills and 21 assists for the double-double while Jessica Johnson also tallied 12 kills in the match, Lexi Davis had 11 on the night while Lauren Bevan had nine kills and five digs in the match. Kyli Schulz led the Lady Buffs with 24 assists while Lauren Britten was the only WT player with double-digit digs with 13. West Texas A&M hit .203 as a team with 46 kills on 143 attempts with 27 attack errors to go along with 49 assists, 59 digs and five total blocks on the night.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2013 LSC and South Central Region Coach of the Year, is now in his sixth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 323-48 (.868, 11th year) including a 187-28 (.863) mark in Canyon.
 
THE 2014 SCHEDULE
The Lady Buffs will play 33 scheduled matches during the regular season including 16 Lone Star Conference contests, the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" will see a total of 13 regular season contests during the season with eight of those coming in league play.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The WTAMU Fielhouse "The Box" boasts one of the most successful home-court advantages in the history of NCAA Volleyball on any level. WT is an amazing 427-61 all-time at The Box for a winning percentage of over 88%.

50 YEARS OF LADY BUFF VOLLEYBALL
The 2014 season marks the 50th year of Lady Buff Volleyball. The Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville will travel to Canyon on October 18th for a matchup during the WT Volleyball 50 Year Celebration at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. Former team members and boosters will return to Canyon for a celebration including a meet & greet, anniversary reception along with recognition during WT's match with Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
The Javelinas enter the weekend with an overall record of 12-7 with a 4-4 mark in league play following a three set loss to UT-Permian Basin on Tuesday night in Odessa. Kingsville is led offensively by Ashley Bukowski with 209 kills for an average of 2.99 per set while teammate Casey Klobedans leads TAMUK in assists with 673 to average 9.75 per frame this season. The Javelinas are led by fourth year head coach Tanya Allen. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against TAMUK, 48-6 with WT claiming the 16 meetings between the two teams dating back to 2004. The Lady Buffs have dominated the Javelinas at the WTAMU Fieldhouse, leading the series in Canyon 25-3 including taking the last eight at The Box dating back to Nov. 4, 2004 in a four set Javelina win.
