The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team shutout the Pioneers of Texas Woman's University 2-0 on a soggy Sunday afternoon. In a game dictated by the weather, the Lady Buffs found a way to come out on top recording their fourth shutout of the season.
It took both teams until late in the first half to find a rhythm and figure out how to move the ball on the sopping field. However, the game remained scoreless until the 68th minute when junior midfielder Katie Henley got her head on a cross from sophomore defender Jamie Ambrose to put WTAMU ahead 1-0.
Only 10 minutes went by before the Lady Buffs added the second and final goal of the game when sophomore forward Sarit Shenar took a long pass from Henley and went one-on-one with TWU's keeper. This goal increases Shenar's season total to 10 goals.
Henley continues to put the numbers up on the board for WTAMU this season as she recorded her fifth goal and third assist. Senior keeper Jamie Roach continues her dominance in net recording her fifth victory, fourth shutout, while only allowing three goals on the year.
WTAMU moves to 5-1-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in the Lone Star Conference.
The Lady Buffs hit the road again on Tuesday Sept. 28 taking on regional opponent St. Mary's University at 2 p.m. WTAMU returns to Kimbrough Memorial Stadium Oct. 1 to take on Colorado State-Pueblo with kick-off scheduled for Noon.
