The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team continued its winning streak of four games, with a 1-0 victory over Incarnate Word early Saturday afternoon in the home opener for the Lady Buffs.
Having been stagnant for the last two weeks with no games, the Lady Buffs started the game slower then the previous three. Once the nervousness and cob webs had been brushed away, WTAMU's sophomore forward Sarit Shenar drew a foul outside the eighteen yard box creating an early chance for the Lady Buffs. With their first chance of the game coming in the 28th minute of play , Shenar lifted the freekick above the Cardinals wall which as guarding the right half of the net, giving the Lady Buffs the lead, 1-0.
The first goal of the game was Shenar's eigth goal of the season as she continues to moves closer to her 2003 season-ending mark 47 points.
On the defensive sides of things, senior goalkeeper Jamie Roach played her best game of the season punching out three scorable shots from the Cardinals. This was surprising as UIW outshot the Lady Buffs 10-8 (with seven on net). Roach earned her fourth win and third shutout of the year.
WTAMU moves to 4-0 on the year as the Incarnate Word moves to 2-4-0 and earns their fifth loss to the Lady Buffs in the overall series between these two teams.
The Lady Buffs are back in action next Saturday Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium taking on Texas A&M-Commerce in the 2004 Lone Star Conference opener for WTAMU. The game will be broadcast live on the Buffalo Sports Network which can be linked to from gobuffsgo.com.
