Final Stats

The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team was led by sensational sophomore striker Sarit Shenar's second-straight hat trick, as the Lady Buffs lowered the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls in the final match of the NMHU Tournament at Las Vegas, N.M.

Shenar, who added an assist on junior forward Katie Henley's first-half goal, now has six goals and three assists in WTAMU's first two matches of the season, after netting a hat trick and dishing out two assists in the Lady Buffs' 8-0 waxing of Adams State College on Friday.

Henley scored in the 42nd minute to give WTAMU a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Shenar put the Lady Buffs ahead 2-nil in the 51st minute on a penalty kick after Henley was fouled in the box.

NMHU got through the WTAMU defense to score in the 70th minute to pull within 2-1, but the Lady Buffs put the clamps on defense and cranked up the offense, as Shenar tickled the twine in the 72nd minute, off an assist from redshirt-freshman defender Carolina Rodriguez.

Shenar closed out the scoring with her third goal of the match in the 89th minute off another penalty shot, after being fouled in the box.

The WTAMU defense limited NMHU to only nine shots total, and just five on goal, as senior netminder Jamie Roach recorded four saves. Meanwhile, the Lady Buffs fired 26 shots on the Cowgirls, including 14 on goal.

WTAMU improves to 2-0 entering a road trip in the opposition direction, traveling to Springfield, Mo., to take on Drury University on Wednesday.
