Box Score

The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team used a successful return to the lineup from sophomore forward Sarit Shenar to down Eastern New Mexico University, 3-1, Friday afternoon in a Lone Star Conference match at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

Shenar, who missed two games due to playing for the Israeli National Team, tallied two goals in the first half, and senior midfielder Aubre Mjolhus netted her first goal in a Lady Buff uniform, while the WTAMU defense held ENMU in tact.

The Lady Buffs controlled play in the first half, as if the field was slanted toward the Zias' goal, as WTAMU fired off six shots on goal in the first half, while ENMU didn't get its first shot until the waning minutes of the half. The Lady Buff defense was stellar, as they repeatedly turned away the Zias.

Shenar fielded an ENMU backwards header and lofted it over the Zia keeper into the net, to put WTAMU ahead 1-0 in the 18th minute.

Five minutes later Shenar fielded a cross from senior forward Katie Henley and buried it in the net to stake the Lady Buffs to a 2-0 advantage. It was Shenar's 14th goal and 34th point of the season, while Henley tallied her fourth assist and 18th point of the season.

The WTAMU attack continued right out of the gates in the second half, as the Lady Buffs launched four shots in the first five minutes.

Later, Mjolhus fielded a deflection and drilled it top shelf in the 56th minute to extend the WTAMU lead to 3-0.

ENMU broke through the defense in the 83rd minute as Jessica Rosas headed a cross from Lauren Standefer into the net past WTAMU senior keeper Jamie Roach.

The Zias had two other attacks late in the game, which Roach saved as part of her four saves on the day.

WTAMU, listed at No. 30 in the NSCAA/adidas Poll, improves to 8-2-0 overall, getting back into the win column after Friday's 2-1 overtime loss to Regis. The Lady Buffs also improve to 2-1-0 in LSC action. ENMU had a two-game win streak snapped and is now 7-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in LSC play.

The Lady Buffs hit the road for a pair of LSC matches, traveling to San Angelo, Texas to take on Angelo State on Friday, Oct. 15, before continuing on to Wichita Falls, Texas to face Midwestern State on Sunday, Oct. 17.

WTAMU returns home to face East Central on Friday, Oct. 22 and then has its home finale on Sunday, Oct. 24 against Northeastern State.
