Box Score
The No. 21 ranked West Texas A&M University women's soccer team lost, 2-1, to Regis University Sunday afternoon in its first overtime game of the season. The loss is the second home loss for the Lady Buffs and snaps a three-game winning streak.
WTAMU's record is now 7-2-0 on the year, while Regis moves to 9-2-0 and is currently on a nine-game winning streak.
The Regis Rangers controlled the game early holding WTAMU to only one shot on goal in the first half as compared to the Rangers five. Regis' Kristen Geyer opened the scoring at 38:25 with an unassisted shot from 15 yards out. With that goal Geyer tied an all-time school record for most career goals with 49 (eight so far this season).
Defense was the name of the game for the Lady Buffs as the solid play of seniors Ashley Mosley and Nicole deJongh kept the game close at 1-0.
With the Rangers switching to a more defensive style to maintain the lead, WTAMU was able to take advantage late in the game and picked up the intensity. This forced Regis to play more aggessively causing a defender to foul WTAMU's Katie Henley in the box resulting in a penalty kick with just two and a half minutes left in the game. deJongh took the penalty kick and made no mistake as she pounded it past the Regis keeper tying the score at, 1-1, and forced overtime. The Regis coach took exception to the call and challenged the referee. He was then issued a red card and was ejected from the game.
However not much time was needed in overtime as Regis' Lacy Richardson got hold of a untimely rebound and netted the winning goal just eight minutes into overtime.
