Box Score

The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team played in its traditional Senior's Day game Sunday against Northeastern State University Lady Reds and continued the offensive explosion with a 5-0 win at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium after beating ECU 7-0 on Friday.

In their last home game of the year seniors Aubre Mjolhus, Nicole deJongh, Aubrie Hunter, Jamie Roach and Ashley Mosley were all honored with a recap of all their accolades while here at WTAMU.

In the opening 15 minutes, both teams felt each other out which found the Lady Buffs missing on a few key opportunities. With WTAMU knocking at the door of the Lady Reds, junior midfielder Katie Henley scored from 16 yards out at the 31st minute mark on a deflection off a NSU defender. This would be Henley's 11th of the year and first of the game.

Seven minutes later the Lady Buffs' senior Ashley Mosley struck gold on a headed corner kick that hit off the crossbar and bounced down over the line and past NSU's keeper Chelsey Hill for a 2-0 Lady Buff lead. This was Mosley's first goal of the season.

Going into halftime the Lady Reds had nothing to bow their heads at since they were only down by two and the Lady Buffs had missed numerous chances to go up even more.

WTAMU could feel the new confidence in Northeastern State in the second half as the Lady Reds put pressure on the Lady Buffs in their own defensive third for the first five minutes of the second half. Even with this change in momentum, WTAMU still pressed on and regained what had earned them two goals earlier.

At the 63rd minute of the second half Katie Henley scored her second goal of the game and 12th on the year bringing her season total to 29 points off a pass across the left side of the field from senior defender Aubre Mjolhus. Henley in the past two games has scored five goals and one assist for a total of 11 points.

Not more than five minutes later, sophomore forward Sarit Shenar found the back of the net off a senior midfielder Nicole deJongh and sophomore Annette McDuffee give and go combination. This was Shenar's 18th goal of the season for her 45th point with still two games in the regular season to play.

The last goal of the game seemed to fit the Senior Day theme very well as senior midfielder Aubrie Hunter scored her third goal of the season, second in two games to top off the scoring for the Lady Buffs in the 77th minute. Shenar and Northcutt earn the assists, Shenar's third point and Northcutt's second assist of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Jamie Roach did her part in the Lady Buffs victory even though she only faced seven shots, having to make four saves bumping her goals against average to 0.69 on the season and a 0.59 in her career. This is Roach's second straight shutout and her 5.5 shutout of the season and 39.5 career shutout. She holds the career LSC records for career goals against average and shutouts.

Northeastern State won the foul count with 17 fouls to WTAMU's 13, had five corner kicks to the Lady Buffs' three and were outshot 22-7.

The Lady Buffs return to action this Thursday, Oct. 28 as they travel to Edmond, Okla. to take on regional and conference rival University of Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m.

WTAMU then concludes the regular season with a trip to Weatherford, Okla. to play Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m.
